I’ll be leaving from Suitland after 4, so should arrive before 5. Will anyone be getting there before 5?

I plan to leave Anacostia at 4 as well, so I should be there by 430.

What time does the HH run from and until, generally?

People usually begin arriving around 5 and there are usually people still around at 8, I would say. Does that sound accurate to others?

Steve, I heard Circa is having a big fundraising event there for a World Refugee fund. Hope there’s enough room! Sounds like we’ll be inside? How’d the bike parking BTW?

We will be inside, we have a decent amount of standing space and a few high tops in the back left portion of the bar (when you enter, go left). It was hard to find anywhere in that area with much more space (esp. on a Thursday), but I think we should be good. Hopefully it should work out just fine!

Bike parking is a little hit and miss, with some by the metro across the street, and then just normal street signs and the like around the area in front of Circa. Some others on the forum might have better advice in that area (I do not work around there).

Looking forward to some drinks tonight!

I’ve done a couple social rides in DC and there always seems to be a few people like this that show up, so I now pretty much refuse to do these types of rides. Despite the reputation ELITE riders get, I find the shop rides to be much more well-behaved. Sure, there are some idiots who can’t hold their line or whatever, but I’m not constantly cringing while thinking “this is why drivers hate cyclists”, like is the case on the social rides. I’m sure I’ll get there, but my feelings about shop rides are still positive at this point..

You needn’t look any further than this video: http://vimeo.com/68553547

In all seriousness though, it has to be the hard thing about organizing any of the larger social rides. It’s just tough to control. Any some folks tend to act out a little when in a large group that makes them feel safe/invincible (especially when as bike riders we often don’t get to feel that way). It really highlights the shame of not having Bike DC this year, or other similar type event. A regular open streets type of event would be a nice venue for controlled social/fun rides.

I will be doing the 200 KM version — life happened and I didn’t have time to train for the longer 200 mile route.

You’re riding 124 miles. I don’t think this requires any explanation.

I’ll defer to the triathletes here with respect to seat post mounted cages, as they are the folks who tend to use those the most. Some people complain that the bottle can bounce out, but most seem to really like them. Just out of curiosity, does your pump mount directly into the water bottle cage braze-ons? Or does it use a little pump holder that mounts onto the frame? I know with my mini pump, I can mount the pump mount and bottle cage into the same braze-ons, just might need long enough screws.

That video, on so many levels, is tough to watch.

left work early and saw steve, rando guy and culimerc. sorry culimerc, wasn’t quick enough to snap your pic.

Nice to finally meet you out and about! Thanks for snapping the pic. Behind me is my buddy Matt. He started bike commuting two months ago, trying to do one day a week. Now he’s just about an every day commuter. Today we left work on the early side to ride down to Port City. After we saw DCV, we didn’t see any more forum members, but on the Holmes Run Trail, we did see a lot of downed trees:

the deer are getting pretty ballsy

I saw some on the Custis two days ago right off the trail, just beyond the Marriott west of Nash, in that little grassy area down below the trail.

As an aside, do you think car drivers have the exact same picture and caption, just replacing deer with cyclists.

I think to be fair, if Tim does change your screen name, you must post an “I’m new to the forum” thread to re-introduce yourself. :)

I got really excited when I read this, because my buddy and I are riding to Port City today after work, and today is the 14th! Then I realized that while today is the 14th, it is not in fact July.

I guess I’ll be doing the same thing on June 14th and July 14th. I’ll be happy both days.

Actually, I have no marketing skills. I’m trying to make up for that fact with shear volume of mentions.

I think it would go something like this: “SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! Kidical Mass zooms through the flattest parts of Arlington County at a blistering 5.5mph! See you on the ride from Quincy Park to Rocklands on this Melt-Your-Face-Off Father’s Day Spectacular!”
