ParticipantI agree with vvill. 10 points worked last year and seems to be working this year, too. It benefits from being simple to understand. However, it doesn’t seem to be quite enough motivation for about half my team members; hence our 8th place standing.

I think there was a consensus that streets and street signs were too simple. The Harrison Bikeway is just Harrison St. by a different name.

I’m also shooting for the feckless award. RCannon, on the other hand, has feck.
Um…feckless – Steve; feck – Bob. That’s what I meant. Don’t think too hard.

D’oh! You’d think with 9 years of college me be’d smarter. (think, Steve, think..come up with a clever rationale. umm umm). Actually I just want more FS miles going back and forth ….and back and forth…and posting photos 30 minutes too late. Yep.

If you happened to snap a pic of the Garfield memorial while you were in the vicinity you’d be ahead of the game!

Custis is the same way. Take it slowly and you’ll be fine. There is some glare ice in a bunch of places, but I rode it with slick tires and didn’t have any problems. I just rolled across the glare ice.
Custis this morning from Ballston in was virtually completely clear with only a couple of spots to pay attention to. Rideable on any type of bike and a modicum of attention.

Okay, so I have to get a new phone. I beat Mr. Cannon here by 40 mins. But then I had to go back to my office, email my picture to myself, download it to my computer…yada yada yada.
Also, I rode 10 miles all the way from home in the cold to get there. It appears he just cruised a block or two on a CaBi.
Not that there’s any sour grapes or anything.

The Curtis was salted.
I rode the Custis from Rosslyn all the way to the WOD. The Rosslyn Hill is in good shape–hardly any ice. Rideable by anyone paying attention.
Long patches of packed snow and ice in different sections. I do not have studs, but wide tires on my 3-speed. I did not fear going down anywhere as long as I held a straight line. Any quick turn, though, could result in a slip.
They have definitely worked on the trail–both plowing (what they can–off the top of the packed stuff) and salting. Sunny spots have gotten pretty good–down to bare pavement in most places. Shady is where you need to be careful.Be especially careful at the bottom of the switchback–there’s a large ice patch just after you go under the bridge before you bear left behind the shopping center.

….. significant sections into Rosslyn are still covered in a mix of slushy/icy stuff….
Undoubtedly, the Rosslyn luge will be a problem for many days. Since the sun never strikes behind the sound wall, whatever melting happens during the day just becomes dangerously icy for the next morning. Given the necessity of this trail section both for cyclists and for peds going to Rosslyn, it should be a high priority to get clearing in addition to the salt. Don’t hold your breath.

Nothing was going on when I got there at 7:30. By the time I left at 8:00 we had six cyclists accounted for.
And one more (a woman–yay!) showed up by the end, but we all left by 8:20–except dismal, who was looking dismally lonesome as we bundled up and left him. 10 FS points for all!!
