This historic Pump House was the City of Rockville’s first public water system and supplier of electricity for street lights and private homes. The Pump House is most infamous for a faulty well which resulted in a typhoid fever outbreak during the winter of 1913-1914. The Mayor and City Council then took measures to establish a state-of-the-art sewage system to prevent another outbreak.

The Pump House is now used as a community center. It has a cute birdhouse that is a miniature version of the building.

#PublicArtFinder – Jacques Schnier was an engineer who started to study art and architecture, then became a sculptor. He died 2 years after this sculpture was created. Couldn’t find any information about this unnamed piece, located on the southwest corner of 355/Rockville Pike and West Gude Drive in Rockville.

#STEM – Opened in December 2016 in Rockville, the GSK biotechnology company named this center after their department head, Moncef Slaoui, who oversaw the development of many vaccines to prevent cervical cancer, gastroenteritis in children, ebola and malaria.
