You overestimate my work ethic… great to know this and I’ve got plenty of time. Thanks.
Ha! No problem. And if you have more questions let me know.

What’s the spacing between your hooks? Is that a 29er? I’m designing my wall storage now and I’m trying to get as compact as possible while still fitting the 29er bars in there…
Sorry Dave – just seeing this so I’m probably posting way too late to be of any use for you. But the hooks are 15″ apart. I initially planned on 16″ but didn’t have the room for 6 hooks so I cut it down to 15″. It’s tight but doable. If I could do 16″ I would have. Yes, there’s a 29er in the bunch.
skreaminquadzParticipantVery cool thread and jabberwocky’s bike room is awesome! Well done sir!
Here’s mine….

A bicycle might not be the best getaway vehicle…
Very true. But I guess she never said I looked like a “smart” bank robber.

^ I really could have used ski goggles like that — my sunglasses got fogged up the moment I put them on, so I had to take them off.
Yeah, it was my first time using ski goggles to ride. And I can tell you – it helped tremendously! Although, right after snapping this pic my wife said that it looked like I was going to go rob a bank.
skreaminquadzParticipantFairfax Drive and North Wakefield
I really do like what they did to this section, but I’ve run into issues with cars parked in the lane waiting to pick up Marymount students. The last time this happened I decided to ask the person to move their car as it’s in the bike lane. She pointed out that there was a sign back about 10 feet indicating that the bike lane ended. So I go back and sure enough, she’s correct. It’s clearly left over from when the bike lane actually DID end there. But now that it’s extended it would be a great idea to take down that sign and paint a cool bike lane person on the asphalt, or whatever they’re called.

I layered properly and was fine, but ended up trading the road bike for the fixie because the rear hub on the road bike wouldn’t reliably engage in the cold. 😮
My rear hub was my biggest concern this morning but it’s my only bike with studds so I took a chance. Luckily I had no issues with the rear hub engaging and proper layering and ski goggles made for a pleasant ride in!
skreaminquadzParticipantI used to be a bellman back in the early/mid 90’s and the general rule was about $2/bag. For other items it would vary but I’d agree that $5 sounds reasonable.
skreaminquadzParticipantDang – makes 2 days in a row that I run into 1/8th!
skreaminquadzParticipantBeen a million years since I posted and was waiting for just this event to post again ; ) Good seeing you out there today 1/8th. Not only did we pass by each other on the way in this morning, but got to ride with you on the way home. Good catching up!

I have a friend at work who did the “ride the rockies” Colorado ride. He trained in flat MD and some in the Blue Ridge of VA, but mostly adjustment to altitude is time at altitude. If you could be in Colorado a week early to allow your body to acclimate it may work well. Also hydrate hydrate hydrate.
I may actually be doing this one next year as well. I do a ride out there every year called Copper Triangle, it goes over Freemont, Tennessee, and Vail (all around the 10k range) passes over 80 miles covering about 6000′ climbing. It’s a challenging ride at sea-level but at altitude it’s a lot more challenging. I definitely notice the altitude. I have done this ride flying in the night before and once flying in 3-4 weeks before the ride. The earlier I get out there the better I feel.
As for training I spent a lot of time at Skyline and other big climbs in the area. It’ll get you fit enough to do it.
