ParticipantI use the trolley trail now, about 95% of the time. With UMD classes starting up, I might have to start taking the Lake Artmesia Route instead of Paint Branch Pkwy though. Nicer scenery by the lake

ParticipantThe more and more I commute to work, the more and more I detest riding metro.

ParticipantGreat ride this morning. The first few miles were chilly in short sleeves, but I was OK after about 4.
On the first st cycle track, some pedestrian walks directly into the bike lane, about 8 feet in front of me. I yell at him and swerve a bit. I didn’t almost go down, but the adrenaline was pumping hard afterward. Those park-it barriers give you very little room to “escape.”
Some guy wearing a green helmet was right on my wheel and I heard his wheels skid as he braked. Green Helmet guy, how about a little space? I don’t know if you were drafting or what, but if you were, the first street cycle track near Union Station is the wrong place to do it.
Right after i yelled, someone, I don’t know if it was the pedestrian or the green helmet guy, said something like, “yea yea get him, get him.” I dont know if someone was advocating for a crash or what, but if they were, go f yourself.

It can be done. http://www.trimet.org/howtoride/bikes/bikesonmax.htm
Yeap, I think the Boston system has something similar. I am headed to Portland in two days. I cannot wait to ride out there!
Even during non rush hour times, some metro trains have enough people where bringing a bike on will make things uncomfortable for the simple reason that there is no where to put a bike.

ParticipantI will sign it, but I think this is a pipe dream.
Metro is a decent system, it could be better, but I think they are going to look at this from the “We have much bigger things to worry about.”
Also, during the rush on certain lines, people are so crammed into cars I simply cannot see getting bike involved, even in the last car.
One thing WMATA should look into if making the current cars more bike friendly. Often times, there isn’t even anywhere to put a bike…

I had to take the NE Branch vice Trolley Trail. RI Northbound was still closed this morning.

Participantway too cold this morning! 60 degrees when I left. Wore a light cycling jacket and started sweating bullets later on. Damn this weather!

Participant19-20 miles each way, and I usually try and aim for 4-5 days a week, usually 5 though, so that puts me at around 152-200.
On Monday, it’s like the freaking Tour De France. Come Friday, my legs are begging for the weekend!

I think last night’s wind was omnidirectional. It seemed no matter which direction I turned, the wind was smacking me in the face, except for the one blissful minute when it all seemed to go away. Then I turned a corner again.
I kept trying to look at various trees and grass to see the direction but it really seemed like it was just “blowing” in all random directions. Should be a little more tame this PM but when I walked out for lunch, there was def a breeze.

ParticipantI thought guns were illegal in DC?
I guess they were until Saturday when a judge fixed that little infringement of rights 😎

How about spacing them zero feet apart? Emergency vehicles could still make U-turns at the intersections.
I kinda want to say that emergency vehicles are designed for jumping curbs. Hell, your regular car can usually safely drive over a curb (if you drive slow enough). Emergency vehicles have suspensions that are beefed up. I think if you read the product pages for some of the popular models of police packages, I think it even talks about a heavier suspension to handle curbs, etc.

No, no polar vortex I was loving the 90’s I want them back. I need my heat… this is not fair it is july it should be in the 90’s. The rest of you get your cool in the fall and winter. We summer people need our high temps.
Amen! I will take 100 degrees with 100% humidity ANY DAY over anything in winter. Hell, I will take 100/100 over the 50s and 60s.
I think I live in the wrong climate
I love it when I leave in the morning, at around 6ish, and it is already in the 80s.

ParticipantGood luck, man. I bought a used bike a few years ago that was a size too big (It was a 56cm, I need a 54). Before I even bought it, I knew it was too big after a short test ride, but I thought, “I can guy another stem and lower the seat.” Man, was I wrong. I tried so many damn adjustments but never got it right. Ended up selling it for less than I paid due to the fact that I took it to the beach and the drive train had enough sand in it to warrant a total tear down.
July 2, 2014 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Bikeshare may not be dangerous, but faulty news reports might hurt your head #1005079skins_brew
ParticipantI will say, of all the cyclists that you see on the road, CaBi cyclists seem to be one of the top demographics who consistently do not use a helmet. Also, a lot of CaBi cyclists ride like they are invincible. “Let me pop in my ear buds and just blow through this intersection.”
Basically, if someone told me that bikeshare users were more susceptible to any kind of injury, I would say, “No Shit?”
