Rumi–yes it was a private event for the Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes. Originally we were going to be in the Presidential Party Suite but we switched to having two tables outside. It’s possible they waived the fees because of the day/time, our group size (20-30), or because we’re a 501(c)(3).

I’m planning on coming! Denizens in Silver Spring might be an option for the spring happy hour, when I helped plan an event they didn’t charge us a fee or have a food/drink minimum.

Some options are Bicycles & Coffee in Purcellville, the Bike Lane in Reston, and Green Lizard (I think they all have some food, but I haven’t been recently). Also the Whole Foods and Caboose in Vienna.

The Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes is planning on riding on Saturday at 2, probably meeting at the Eastern Market metro (although we might meet at the Bethesda metro), assuming it isn’t too snowy. If you’re interested in joining, you can email Karla (karla.gilbride at gmail.com), and she’ll let you know if there’s space for you to join–let her know your height and if you’ve ridden a tandem before. MWABA had a team of four tandems at the 50 States ride and we had a great time! We’re always looking for additional captains for the remaining Thursday night rides, the weekend rides, the Cider Ride, and possibly the Pumpkin Ride. I’ve used a banjo brothers market pannier https://banjobrothers.com/products/market-pannier and/or my other panniers (ortlieb, North St. backpack pannier). I brought my pannier(s) into the grocery store and loaded my groceries directly into them, instead of using canvas bags.

Would I get points if I’m riding the tandem? Or only if I spot other people riding tandems? If I get points for riding a tandem, do I get a point per tandem ride (if I upload a photo)? Or only more points if I ride different tandem bikes?
