Personally, I think ELITE is so ridiculous it’s funny.
That’s why it must live on, in its ALL CAPS glory.

ParticipantThe trail was nearly empty this morning. So were the roads. I guess I’m in the ELITE group of non-vacationers.
Starting out, my legs felt strong. Then I realized I was still in the second chain ring after last night’s ride with the kids.

ParticipantNo flats for a week. It seems the tire bead was not setting in the rim properly, creating a slightly flatter spot where each of the punctures occured. Kneaded the tire into place better while pumping it, and also changed the rim tape for good measure.

ParticipantMy profile pic is the spitting image. You can’t miss me.

Live a couple miles south of Old Town; Belle View area. Work in Indian Head, MD (probably not a popular choice for happy hours). Commute in steel box.
You should get a small boat and bike to/from it. You’d have the ultimate in pleasant, nature-filled commutes.

A while back, and I can’t remember if it was DC or some other place, I saw a couple wearing matching road kit (like honest to goodness kit, with a bunch of “sponsor” logos and what not), matching road shoes with SPD-SL pedals, the whole works…they were riding matching Huffy full-suspension bikes on an MUP.
I don’t understand these kind of couples. If my wife comes out of the house wearing a hat, I take mine off.

ParticipantWow. Does this mean that 29ers are not really 29ers? Is it just a marketing ploy to make mountain bikers feel better about themselves?

I’m disappointed in this group. A thread that starts out about calf muscles and not a single picture. Granted. taking a photo of your calf is about as easy as kissing your elbow, but still.
It’s very hard to maintain delusion in the face of public ridicule. I’ll stick with MY image of my calves.

Found these 29″ wheels — in stock! I don’t know why we were searching only for disk 700s — 29″ is the same size, and there are lots of disk brake MTB wheels out there.
My ride in was SOOO much faster, I swear. Actually when the mechanics spun my old wheels on the axle, they just shook their heads — hubs were totally shot. New wheels = great upgrade.

700c and 29″ wheels are the same size? I thought 700c was slightly smaller than 27″. I have a lot to learn.

ParticipantSaw Rootchopper by the power plant on his Bike Friday heading home. The lesson here is we don’t need swag to identify each other, we just need distinctive rides.

Let’s face it, some of our threads end up going in funny, but off-topic, directions which would frustrate most people looking for an encyclopedia compendium of best available info.
That’s a feature, not a bug.

I need one of his Tron skinsuits so as to appear sufficiently Elite.
I think you’re supposed to all-caps ELITE. Forum Style Guide rule.

ouch! thanks!
The $80 bars do the same thing: lift the front wheel off the ground and turn any kid’s bike into a trailer bike. This high-priced fancy version probably rides better (and lets you still use a child seat), but not $300 better.

I’m going to pretend that that is a DayQuil-induced hallucination and I didn’t actually see it.
But they’re perfect for Rex Kwon Do. No one would want a roundhouse kick to the face while you’re wearing those bad boys.
