ParticipantThere were at least three widely different temps at Gravelly when I rolled through, as well as a very loud wind gust that sounded like twisting sheet metal.

ParticipantIf your brifters have the cables already installed, it should be fairly easy provided you have a decent cable cutter. It took me about 15 minutes to change my grip shifters, though I should have replaced the cable housing but didn’t.

Maybe I’m not following exactly…but I dont have a problem downloading GPX files to my Android via RidewithGPS. Sure, its kind of a pain to go through the steps, but for the past two DC Randonneurs brevets, I’ve pulled the GPX files down from their website, uploaded to RidewithGPS, then downloaded them as routes onto the Android app. Shows map view, cue sheet style, and turn-by-turn (not sure about audio turn-by-turn though)
Do you happen to know if there’s an iPhone app for us Borg? I couldn’t find one.

ParticipantSkipped out of work a little early and saw RCannon single-pinging a jogger heading north on the MVT. The ping masked my shout-out.

I see quite a few trailers for sale on craigslist, and they’re pretty reasonably priced (under $100 for many of them). Any thing I should look out for when buying a trailer? Certain types of hitches, wheels, etc? Thanks
I have a cheap trailer with a hitch that just clamps onto the chain stay. I hate it because it slips and then hits the spokes. The kind with hitches that attach to the rear axle are better.

ParticipantCrysb was awesome. It was good seeing everyone. Bummed we missed the piper, though.

ParticipantI might bring the kid on her trail-a bike to watch the races. We’ll ride in from Vienna or thereabouts.

There’s one more, alas. I tried to buy the 18″ 2011 Kona Humuhumu with the (weirdly customized) drop bars for myself, to use as a knockaround bike — I was going to put a rear rack and those collapsable baskets on it — and for light duty trail rides. But Anthony and Laurie told me it was too small for me — I had the seatpost set at max height, and they said they’d be embarrassed to have a shop regular riding a bike that didn’t really fit. So sadly it’s back on the floor. I’d been eyeing that bike all year waiting for the sale… I might order a 20″ though, I still like my idea…
A single-speed mountain bike with drop bars? Some pink tape and one of us could be Dirt Jr.

It’s pretty easy but kind of messy and if you don’t like chain packing grease (which I don’t) the preliminary cleaning and re-lubing can be time-intensive (yes, I know that some folks swear by the OE grease but I can’t stand it. At all. So into the sonic cleaner it goes).
Cut old chain
Use old chain to measure new (if using quick link, measure one link short)
Spend 45 minutes cleaning and deep-lubing already clean chain
Install new chain, ideally with quick link to reduce time for future chain OCD-nessIt took me about 45 minutes I think. I used Sheldon Brown’s method of measuring the new chain, though just using the old chain sounds much easier. Then my chain tool broke and I had a bit of trouble getting the connector in all the way. Maybe I should have just used a quick link. I didn’t clean or re-lube the new chain.
The new chain feels good, but the rear is now upshifting itself one gear with each shift. Perhaps I have to tighten the rear derailleur cable (?).
