ZOMG orange bike! That seems like a really good deal, no? What say you, bike peoples?
I say I like it a lot for that price, even though it seems like every third bike is orange now. Get thee to [STRIKE]Balmer[/STRIKE] Carroll County.

ParticipantIt’s actually two separate topics in one column. I’m sure the print edition would have a three-dot break or other obvious transition beginning at “Who are we?”

Nice. Maybe we can have officially sanctioned bonus point event days. Those willing to participate go to eat pho, visit a brewery, etc. and then ride x miles afterwards for a certain % point bonus on those days.
No need for a bonus – it already counts as a ride. How is a funride with food worth more than a solo slog?

I agree in principle, but I fear we’re all on the verge of overthinking this whole thing. But maybe Team1 can make a “no trainer” pledge, which doubtless will make our victory even sweeter.
I agree with this. It’s not a big deal either way, really.

ParticipantLooking back at the original post, I fear I imagined the agreement on banning trainers. So train away I guess.
But I remain unconvinced by any of the arguments for them. I can’t recall anyone ever holding a mid-winter “polar bear” swim in an indoor pool, with the justification that swimming laps is boring and therefore just as torturous as an icy lake.

I don’t think trainer rides have been ruled out. I asked whether we wanted any rules on things like that, then Ron said he could filter them out, but I don’t think any decisions were made to exclude them. I think the only rule is that one mile minimum is needed to count for a ride day. I’m fine with that.
I was under the impression that one of the very first agreements was no trainers. It’s hardly a winter challenge if it can be done indoors.

Hi friends, finally joined up with team one on Strava (hey captain, what’s the team name?) and am siked to start adding up the miles. When does the beer drinking happen? Cheers!
Welcome aboard. The team name is Team 1 unless we come up with something better. Any suggestions?
The beer drinking has started already and will be ongoing.

http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1117975_-1___A colleague of mine got one a bit over a year ago (on my recommendation to get a CX bike for commuting)… got hit by a vehicle recently though and the bike is totalled – as a result said colleague is upgrading to another new CX bike now.
Yeah, I guess you’re right. It looked like Sora from what I could see, but it was a 20 speed.

ParticipantPerformance has the Scattante x340 LE cross bike for $499 and the Fuji Cross 3.0 for $699. Both have Sora components, though.

No answer to your specific question, that’s a pretty bad area to be on a bike…
I disagree. He’s just a few neighborhood streets away from the Eisenhower Ave connector at Clermont, which can connect him to both Holmes Run and MVT. And both Telegraph and Franconia are bike-able. There are also new paths over the Beltway at Telegraph and connecting Rt 1 to the Wilson Bridge.

Quick update; I think we found a nice place near Rose Hill Elementary School (nearest main cross streets are Rose Hill Drive and Franconia Road). Does anyone have any input/feedback on that area? If I lived out there, what is the best way/s to get to the Woodrow Wilson bridge or Mt Vernon Trail?
-NickI used to live a mile or two from there. Nice area. Not the county’s best schools, but still good.
You can either head north on Telegraph, right on Huntington, and left on Rt 1 to the new bike path to the Wilson Bridge. Or you can go up Franconia to Clermont and over to the Eisenhower Ave path to Old Town. Or South Kings Hwy to Memorial to Beacon Hill Rd and down to the Mt Vernon Trail. Just depends on where exactly your house is and your preference.
