On trainers- I’m all for them, provided that they are set up outside
December 31, 2012 at 1:22 pm #958580MikeyParticipantHow about this for a trainer compromise? Trainer miles count 1point per mile, but no 10 point daily bonus unless you actually get outside on the bike.

Nice. Maybe we can have officially sanctioned bonus point event days. Those willing to participate go to eat pho, visit a brewery, etc. and then ride x miles afterwards for a certain % point bonus on those days.
Belly busters!
on the scoreboard: awesome work!
on trainers: bleh.December 31, 2012 at 1:53 pm #958585ShawnoftheDreadParticipant@vvill 39118 wrote:

No need for a bonus – it already counts as a ride. How is a funride with food worth more than a solo slog?

Sorry Ochos, I’m out of the country (lounging on a beach, logging swims)- just joined the team but won’t be riding until week 2… Hans will represent for me, I’m sure…
Enjoy the warmth! But that will make the shock of winter riding even more severe.
December 31, 2012 at 7:02 pm #958610birddogParticipantHey – I just updated my strava account with some ‘activities’.
I’m looking forward to joining in. Could you put me on a team please?

Kyzer! Team II for you!
Go to the link and hit ‘join’, wait 15 minutes, and then go look at your team’s score.December 31, 2012 at 7:29 pm #958613birddogParticipantAwesome! Thanks – I’ll check it later this afternoon.

The team name is Team 1 unless we come up with something better. Any suggestions?
“Freezing Saddles: In the end, there can be only Team 1”
December 31, 2012 at 8:58 pm #958620rcannon100ParticipantThe original game that we had consensus on had the following scoring rule:
Scoring: Riders will receive 10 points for each day and 1 point for each mile ridden. Minimum ride is 1 mile. The tribe’s score will be the sum of the tribe members.
If you are outside and you are riding (ergo the name), it scores, as long as it is longer than a mile (no riding down the driveway). The 10 points per day bump favors daily riding (commuters).
If we are talking about indoor stationary trainers…. no, that is not part of this game. It’s not outside in the cold. It doesnt move and therefore doesnt meet the one mile minimum. The whole purpose to Freezing Saddles was to create a game to encourage us to keep commuting through the winter months. The fact that on some days we will be confronted with snow and ice is the point of the game, not an excuse to allow indoor stationary trainers.
Scores for special rides or special days: This was discussed and rejected. It was decided that the 10 points bonus per day was sufficient. For example, during a blizzard – instead of a blizzard bonus – the mere fact that you are in the saddle and rode at least one mile gives you 11 points when very few people will be in the saddle.
The game is structured like the Natl Bike Challenge to favor and encourage daily commuters. This seems like an excellent idea in the depths of the darkness and cold that is winter.

We need to talk some trash. To make the victory all the sweeter. Then
We need to plan a happy hour or something.January 1, 2013 at 12:54 am #958627AmalitzaGuestCan I get a clarification on the one mile minimum? Is that one mile per ride, or one mile per day? If one were to make two separate trips of a half mile each in the same day, would they get their 10 points for the day or not?
(asks the person with a 7-11 right at a half mile round trip from home)

Don’t sweat the small stuff. You’re on Team Ten. Yes of course it counts!

I took a liberal interpretation when implementing the scoring rules – you get your daily points if your daily mileage is 1 mile or more.

Ok – then I misinterpreted this post.
If we exclude certain types of Strava activities, we need some way to implement the rule. Pretty much the only way to do this is to put something in the activity name. So here’s a proposal to (a) except, (b) reject, or (c) amend:Excluded activities: If you post an activity to Strava during the competition period which is not an outdoor bike ride, then it should have the string “#NoBAFS” in the activity name.
