3/15/21 – Christmas Ornaments or Lights
Super weak-sauce, but this was all I could find in 15 miles. Tiny little red and green lights. HOAs largely mean the death of unique and independent decoration…

ParticipantThis heron is hidden behind the Booz Allen Hamilton building in Metro Park behind the Franconia Metro Station. There are a few other animal statues that I will have to go back and snap next time.
I’m not sure if it counts as art, but the second picture is the igloos set up at Osteria Marzano on the other side of the building.

3/14/21 – Scientist (Name)
Alexandra Harmon-Threatt is an assistant professor at Illinois’ Department of Entomology. Her research focuses on pollination ecology. For nearly two decades, she has researched how pollinators respond to disturbances, as well as the role invasive plants have on bee diet and nutrition. In addition, she investigates habitat fragmentation on bee communities and how fire and habitat management impact those communities.

Some lovely daffodils i found on my ride. I saw snowdrops the other day but didn’t have time to hear back over there today; I would have preferred to post a native…

It’s hard to tell, but I’m pointing to a T-mobile store in my neighborhood here. #flyby

3/8/21 – Notable Woman (with her achievement)
Audrey Moore was an environmentalist who became chairwoman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and successfully fought for the preservation of several thousand acres of open land in rapidly growing Northern Virginia. The Fairfax County Parks Rec Center at Wakefield Park is named after this local advocate.
The Washington Post Obituary is linked below

There are many Virginias to choose from but I highlighted Virginia Hall. She was a covert operative during World War II and her efforts resulted in both intelligence and operational gains for the allies. You can learn more about Virginia Hall in the excellent book A Woman of No Importance.

ParticipantThis only works when the station is open, but apparently you can use the Franconia-Springfield metro station and the adjacent VRE station as a wormhole between “downtown” Springfield and points southeast. Google has tried to take me this way when Metro isn’t operating and all you meet are closed gates. You have to go up and down three flights, I took the stairs but if your bike can fit in the elevator that would work too.

3/3/21 – Train
I grabbed a couple of shots with just my bike and the tracks and trestle just in case I missed the train, but I eventually caught the VRE Crossing Rolling Road in Burke. I was also treated to a sighting of both birds of the nesting pair of eagles in Lake Accotink Park!

3/2/21 – Little Free Library (with your bike in the pic!)
In 2009, President Obama proclaimed March 2 as Read Across America Day.
In celebration of the day, snap a picture of one of those happy little boxes of knowledge and intrigue known as a Little Free Library, and post it here on the forum. For this hunt, make sure your bike is also in the picture.
Happy hunting!

P.S. – for those playing OUTSIDE of the U.S. that don’t have good access to a Little Free Library, take a pic of a cool looking library, but make sure that you have your bike in the pic
3/2/21 – Little Free Library
I visited one of about eight LFLs within 2 miles of my house. I ended up visiting #55455 on Langbrook Road in Springfield, VA and was treated to a delightful view of not only a Library, but apparently an entire lending playspace with what appears to be a gnome city! Adorable and totally made my day. #readacrossamericaSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

ParticipantMany of the Fairfax County Libraries have a book statue out front. This Alice in Wonderland book is at the Pohick Regional Library oh, but you might not see it if you don’t drive through the book drop off line.
