That’s the PM for the ArlCo sewer pipe project.
Be aware that the dumpster and detour signs might belong to the Berkeley apartments construction project (if you can distinguish one obstruction from another). I just dug up their contact info as well, Mary Claire Davis (AHC, Inc.) at davismc@ahc.org.
I got a response from Mr. Wahdan that he contacted the contractor and that they said they will pick up the dumpster tomorrow. Also on an update to the sewer line:
Monday we are scheduled to start relining the sewer pipe in that location which is a continuous 4 to 5 day process ( weather permitting). the sidewalk will be closed at that location And the closest traffic lane will be closed. This is the last phase of the sewer line project. immediately after we will start removing the big black pipe which hopefully should take us about 3 to 3 1/2 weeks.

ParticipantWill do. Thanks of the contact info!

Agreed. I’ve got someone from BikeArlington on the line and have shared pictures of the obstruction. She’s communicating with the project team and we’ll try to get it rectified. It’s been that way since Christmas, and I’ve seen people doing dangerous things trying to get around. Be safe.
Thanks for doing that! Let me know if it helps if I complain as well. I cross to the trail around that section. It is not a big deal because I do it on a bike, but I can see someone on foot having no other choice but crossing illegally.

There was, yes, a porta-potty down on the 4MRT where you turn downhill from Glebe to pass the construction (going EB) Be careful.
I noticed it too when someone got out without looking when I was passing.
This section is getting worst and worst. The contractors decided to close off the sidewalk/trail in front of the shopping center without any safe accommodations. It makes someone trying to cross legally to the trail – and even a bus stop – to make a detour of at least half a mile. I don’t know if that is allowed?

ParticipantIt still was missing today. I was honestly happy when I saw that it was gone because of visibility. A lot of people try to pass on that blind corner and I had a bad crash in that spot because of that. I realize not being blown away into the GWP is more important however.

There were several inches of water on 4MRT way back at Mount Vernon Avenue, so I bailed and took Eads.
Water had receded around 8:30am.

ParticipantI hope that the muscle pain goes away soon. I fell there last year and hurt my shoulder going like 5 miles an hour. You are likely to wipeout if you break or twist your wheel all of the sudden. I thought the pain was going to go away soon, but it took more than a month to heal, so best wishes.
I have witnessed 3 people wipeout over there this year, so I am sure there’s tons of people getting hurt there all the time.

ParticipantI run sometimes on the MVT and have found that bells, no matter the distance, startle me. Even though I know to expect them, I still feel uneasy about them. I prefer the “on your left” call instead. It might be that they are less audible, but while cycling, they don’t startle me at all.

ParticipantI don’t mind them as a concept. I have even considered buying one. I have a problem with the way some people ride them though. Twice this week I have had to break to a complete stop because they have come straight at me cutting through people. It is just a matter of time before I crash with one. Some of them use headphones and swerve around the bike path, so of course they can’t hear bike bells and won’t let you pass.

ParticipantGatorSkin 700×23. I probably need new ones though…

ParticipantGot a flat on the Mount Vernon Ave overpass on Four Mile Run. Somebody broke a bottle in there. Another fellow cyclist said that he cleaned it while I was changing the flat. Hope it is not a regular occurrence.

ParticipantSomething fluid hit my face while the truck was cleaning the portajohns with the new configuration. I don’t really want to know what it was.

Participant“Sometimes” is the keyword here. I do it most of the time when I need to do a left turn and I have to change lanes with car traffic. I get to the sidewalk and cross as a pedestrian. I get it that it gives drivers the wrong message, but that’s better than being in a hospital bed with no fault of my own and having to pay my own medical bills.
I have never dismounted at the IOD, but do cross slowly. The drivers will try to run you over most of the time anyway, but you have more time to completely stop if you need to.

ParticipantI hope you are okay and that you get to resolve your case in a favorable way.
I have been cycling for about 3 years and have come to learn that as a cyclist you are always the low hanging fruit. The law doesn’t protect cyclists as it does with drivers and even pedestrians. I love speed and try to push as much as I can when parts of the trail are empty and on hills, but whenever I am approaching an intersection, even if I have the right of way, I slow down, and try to cross in the safest way, even if I have to get down off the bike sometimes. Even if I do that, I sometimes get close calls, but the chances I get into a bad accident goes down significantly.

ParticipantUgh. I am going to miss an important World cup match for this, but this is more important. I am in!
