Elite? That’s a stretch. I can’t get that tripping face plant out of my head.

ParticipantSo… a lot has changed since this article was published. I would LOVE to see a follow up article that notes the increase of bike commuting post COVID-19 lockdowns with updated traffic/collision stats. One of the long standing truisms is that with more cyclists commuting on the roads, incidents and fatalities diminish. Would like to see if the data supports this post pandemic.

Just in time for Bike to Work Day!
[Yeah, yeah, I know it’s already been cancelled

So I was one of the weirdos on 5/15 and biked to work that day not because I couldn’t work from home, but because I truly missed bike to work day. Separate masks for sweaty biking vs interacting with real people.

ParticipantI also love kool stop salmons on my early aughts Bianchi Volpe with cantilever brakes. As many mentioned, they are pretty long so need a bit of patience tuning in, but great performance especially in the wet.

ParticipantTeam 7: Timmy D and Carl Henn
Timmy cranked out some major miles and Carl literally saved my ass. Thank you both!SarahBee

Right now is a good time to learn some new on-street bike routes to avoid those groups of people. Steve O and I did a modified version of the Contes Alexandria ride this morning. Only a little bit on the MVT (and the very southern end too which is rarely crowded), otherwise, all street riding on very safe neighborhood roads. I think that’ll be my long-ish ride route for awhile since it’s easy to do between a 20-50 miles using variations of it people have posted on their facebook page.
I drove past the MVT north of the airport today, and there is NO WAY I’d want to ride on that right now. I went Friday along the trail and to Hains Point which was lovely, but it looks like a downright mess right now.
Emm: yes, this is a GREAT opportunity to try out a less traveled, all road route that will likely be plowed and treated during FS next year- alone or with your immediate household members.

ParticipantThanks for the pics, Pablo. It was a great night and we were able to exercise good social distancing!

ParticipantMy rule of thumb it is always safer to draft someone you know who is predictable, knows you are there, and feels comfortable with you riding on their wheel. Drafting involves a lot of trust by both parties. Snot rockets are not the only hazard as I discovered from the taco challenge this FS season!

ParticipantIs it possible for the lovely LBS folks that are still open, providing a public service, and employing our friends (Phoenix Bikes, Contes, Bikenetic, etc.) please let us know how we can support you during the pandemic including donation, gift cards, etc.?

ParticipantThe Mini snack & beverage mobile will not be making an appearance out of an abundance of caution. If I do head down, it will be close to the witching hour since this appears to be the only time of day that it’s actually possible to socially distance on the trails.

ParticipantHeadline should read “Biking back from a movie night more dangerous than regular commuting.” I am that statistic.
