ParticipantYou can park in Jones Point Park and ride the trail under the bridge and up to Washington Street. There are also playgrounds and bathrooms. Drive to the end of South Royal Street and follow the signs.

ParticipantI did this ride several years ago and kept the cue sheet. I found the cue sheet yesterday morning and drove over, not realizing that it was the day of this year’s ride. I started at 11. So if you saw a guy in an orange shirt on a long black recumbent that was me. Here’re are my impressions of the day (not including how my old cue sheet took me down a road that was closed for a bridge rebuild

Also, did any of you hear rifles shots in the woods during the ride. It was near the road closure and totally freaked me out.Rootchopper
ParticipantI went through this when I tried to replace the seat post on The Mule. Nobody had what I needed (wanted more set back). They were very creative with all kinds of half-assed remedies though. Still have the same seat post. Such are the perils of riding a 20-year old bike.

ParticipantI have a neuroma in my left foot that got very painful when I ride my recumbent. I put large Powergrips on my pedals which allow my foot to move forward so that the pedal axle is closer to my arch. Seems to have solved the problem.

ParticipantIf you are a real fireworks addict you can watch them one week later in Old Town Alexandria. I’ve watched them from the Wilson Bridge trail a couple of times. It’s too far away for the DC event on the 4th but at least you get to see DC’s and National Harbor’s fireworks plus another set on the horizon to the north.

ParticipantTwas I. And Big Nellie. We’re kinda hard to miss.
In a visual sense that is.

ParticipantI bought some of those old fashioned gloves with the knitted webbing on the back. They have lots of air flow and they leave a cool looking tan on the back of my hands. I bought them at Bikes at Vienna. They were very inexpensive.

ParticipantWhy not try a recumbent? I have commuted on one for years and there are no upper body discomfort issues at all. You can probably buy a used one at a place like Bikes at Vienna.

ParticipantAck. My daughter’s hs musical is that night. Maybe I can get the school to reschedule.

ParticipantModify your trailer with those sword things from Ben Hur and you’re good to go.

ParticipantAnd I thought my Bike Friday and my Tour Easy were oddballs. No longer.
BTW, for some reason I am wondering what happens if you put helium in those tires.

ParticipantI left work on N. Lynn in Rosslyn last night. 4 or 5 Arlington PD cruisers were parked in the bike lane on Lynn just before 19th. When I got to 19th, I saw a LEO picking up a road bike and putting it in the trunk of his cruiser. I overheard hims say, “I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.” Didn’t see the cyclist anywhere. I am assuming it was an accident. Anybody hear anything?

ParticipantI routinely repair these kinds of tire cuts with dollar bill boot. Just fold over the dollar and hold it in place while you get the tube situated in the tire. If the rest of the tire is in good shape keep riding it. I have replaced worn out tires a couple of times and had a dollar bill (dried out and crumbly) fall into my lap. You can get hundreds of miles out of a cut tire this way.

ParticipantI am with Rcannon100 on this. E-bikes are amazing. I see two of them from time to time when I commute on the Mount Vernon Trail. They look like run of the mill upright bikes except they go quite fast with little effort. The first time I was passed by one I thought, “God, I’m slow today.”
I’d think your biggest concern would be range. Can the battery last all the way from DC to Herndon? Remember, it’s slightly uphill going west so the battery will drain faster in the afternoon.Rootchopper
ParticipantThe ride from Rosslyn to Mount Vernon was, excuse the expression, a breeze this evening.
