I vote for the limit for rides to “count” be 1 mile.

Just a clarification from last year’s challenge. The 10pt bonus was for at least 1 mile of total mileage in a day. So if you took 3 separate tripes totaling .34 miles each, you’d be golden. I’m pretty sure both hozn and I implemented this rule the same way.

Separately, I probably can’t host the scoreboard this year (that whole graduation thing means UMD won’t give me free web space). That shouldn’t be a problem, since hozn’s scoreboard was pretty great.

My commutes have been a relief. I’ve had a head cold for the past couple of days, and it mostly goes away while cycling.

I also learned that closed-toe sandals and wool socks make decent cool weather footwear. Just enough air flow to feel refreshing.

I’m wondering if there are any first-hand recommendations people have for riding in the wet.

For both my falls, it was wet leaves and wet leaf silt that caused slick conditions. Without studs, I don’t see how changing tires would help. I’ve had Vittoria Randonneurs on for the past 7k miles (38s for 5k, 35 for 2k) and they seem to perform about as well as my brakes in the wet on otherwise clear pavement.

    * Is strava out? Can make teams on strava, where we record miles- and then that information gets moved to a google doc scorecard?

I’ve done minor amounts of research through the year. Short answer is that since tapiriik can sync Strava with several services that do have open APIs, whatever solution we come up with could let GPS users enter their miles through Strava (or Garmin Connect, or Run Keeper or wherever).

However, tapiriik does not support syncing manual activities. If I remember right, we have a good percentage of people who entered their miles manually. Some type of Google Forms/Docs solution might work well (although it probably needs to allow editing to correct mistakes) for the manual users.

I don’t see a way to make teams and team membership quite a seamless as last year.

Sorry, Dickie. I find that mustache a bit taft. I’ll wait for head tube hair that grants my bike a bit more gravitas.

Is there also a discount on superfluous apostrophes?

They aren’t apostrophes. They’re tiny, tiny bikes (with mustaches).

I’m a similar weight. I switched from 32s to 35s and it gave me much more control on gravel surfaces. I’m not enough of a connoisseur of comfort to comment on other characteristics.

BM IQ Cyo (left) vs. Cree flashlight (right, barely visible):

In person, the Cree seems about half as bright as the IQ Cyo. It doesn’t matter that much, since I mostly use the helmet light for tracking corners on the trail and signalling drivers who seem ready to pull out in front of me. The PB Blaze is nearly invisible. I can only see it if it is pointed up and reflected in the road signs.

It hasn’t changed much since I took the photo and video:
    4033636774_0a2fa44aa4.jpg
    Lights in the video are:
BM IQ Cyo R (dynamo head light)
BM 4D Toplight Multi (hybrid rear light)
    Planet bike 1/2 watt Blaze.
    PB Superflash

The parking lot is well lit, so the bike lights aren’t all that dramatic.
Maybe I can get some fresh shots soon.

It’s the other way around – the truck backed over the car. Trucks are kinda scary.
