I have a similar issue with the 500. I’ll have to see if I can do that as well.
You definitely can. I have elevation points set for my home and work. The only time it doesn’t help is if I’m on a long ride and have to turn the unit off and back on while taking a break.

ParticipantI somehow convinced myself the ride was yesterday. I caught my mistake in time, but decided to go on a ‘practice’ ride to the zoo, since I have childcare duties on Tuesday, anyway:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/157710647Some riding observations:
- Gallatin St NW is one way with “two way bike traffic”. It’s nothing other than sign-endorsed salmoning, as there is nothing in the way of facilities for it (paint, light triggers, etc). I tried this once before, and drivers never ever look the ‘wrong way’ before turning.
- The zoo tunnel sidewalk is terrible (well known). I didn’t even feel safe walking my bike on it. I backed up and took the road. Only had one driver honk, and I even got to say ‘hi, how’re you doing?’ once I got back on the trails and passed him in traffic. Five minutes later, he passes me with his retort, “Yeah, that’s where you belong!” Seriously, driver education is the pits around here.
- The entire area around the Memorial bridge is terrible to navigate. Everywhere you look, the trails are crossing high speed turn ramps, or end abruptly at a big highway.

To me that would just imply they need to turn off the assist (electric, gas or otherwise).

Update: I gave up and just stored them in a storage unit.
The inexpensive bike market booms in spring and just before college classes start (is there an intern boom, too?). Even warm Februaries are going to be slow.

ParticipantUMD tags suspected abandoned bikes and removes them a month or two later (often over break). Once removed, they post a general description of the bikes, and if they still aren’t claimed, they auction them off.
(what do you know, there’s an article about it in the student newspaper this week)

Underneath University Blvd on the Paint Branch Trail in College Park?
Nope – that’s a cement deck. It is on the Anacostia Tributary Trail system, though.

base of the wilson bridge, MD side. there’s a nice little park that spans over I-495 at the base of the bridge.
Yep. That was from WAGBRAD II. It’s a pity the MD side is poorly connected.

ParticipantSince my first post is still unidentified, I thought I’d try again with a higher profile location:

This one will be hard for NoVa and MoCo riders.East side of Lake Artemesia, looking towards the Green Line. I photographed my turtle avatar just over the wooden bridge to the east.
In a similar vein, how about this one:

It was nice out at lunch today so I snuck out on my bike with the intention of checking out the MBT for the first time. Hahahaha. Never really found it. Is it hiding in plain sight?
The entrance to the current bike portion is on the south side of M street, between 1st and 3rd:

I have no idea if they plan on extending it south or not.ronwalf
ParticipantI used a Garmin Forerunner 205 for years until the seal failed and I messed up the repair job. I just picked up a refurb Edge 500 (same warranty as new), picked up the heart-rate monitor and cadence sensor separately, and still came in under what they were charging for a new unit alone (all off Amazon). If I didn’t care about the sensors or the barometric altimeter, I’d get the Edge 200 (~$150).
It’s interesting what behavior a computer does and doesn’t encourage (for me, anyway). In the year and a half without a computer, I kept track of my distance and average speed just fine with an online journal (RunKeeper, in this case) and a stop watch (subsequently died, function replaced by dumb-phone). I watched general trends, seeing how my speed is affected by sleep, wind and temperature. With the GPS, I played coverage games around the neighborhood, seeing what streets I could hit on my commute through the week. The more varied routes make it harder to directly compare performance.

Those ring-type guards keep the teeth on your front chain ring from grabbing and ripping your pants.
They also protect shoe laces from vicious mauling (but not viscous oiling).
