20ºF means refreezing of melted snow and ice patches. I don’t know when you’ll get better conditions for studded tires. Usually our snow falls during temps closer to 32ºF and stays pretty slushy.

26×1.5 Schwalbe Marathons for me. They are slippery when wet, so probably not too grippy on ice. I let some air out, to 60psi.. The rear is kinda smooth and I can see a little of the green flat protection layer peeking though. :p

I sighted 1/8 at his place of work this morning. He looked very clean and warm. At the time he was securing a towel from the security guard, so I guess he was about to get even cleaner and warmer. I was dirty and cold and I think I had snotcicles.

Thanks for introducing yourself. It was nice to meet you. :)

I wore a short sleeve jersey, but I had a long sleeve Goretex base layer under it. :)

Last edited by acl; Today at 07:02 PM. Reason: oh, wait. I forgot about my team captain. This might not be mine.

    No it’s all you.

I’m not going to ride around when I get a break and I’m done eating and I’m bored, not with my pager accidentally turned to silent, not to Buzzards Point, where I get a phone call asking me if I copied the rush hatchback job, the truck call and the car job and I say “Uh no…” I got the rush done on time, but made the dumb mistake of picking up the TC before the CJ and by the time I’d dropped it and got to last pickup I was told that the client had picked it up herself because it took me so long to get there. So that was not good but I got lots of miles for the team lapping Hains and riding to Buzzard Point before I realized I was wanted at the office!

Haha. No I need to take it easy on the lunch rides. :P

I will happily deliver a sandbag to the rider who went over his or her expected mileage by the greatest percentage.

Thanks for the great info. I got a volunteer job for the inauguration and need to report at 7th and D SW at 5:00 a.m. I would love to ride in with others in like situation. FYI, we were told that sufficient bike racks will be installed on the south side of the mall, but I feel dubious about that. If anyone can confirm I would appreciate it.

Where are you riding in from? If you have a u-lock, a parking meter makes a great bike rack. You should be able to find a secure place to park.

I worked delivering coffee donuts, box lunches to volunteers staffing two bike valet stations. This is a report I posted http://www.epicski.com/t/79342/d-c-1-20-09

It is not hard to get from north to south or vice versa if you go around the west side. 23rd street.

No doubt that he has a lot to answer for in the cycling world. But I don’t think cancer victims were taken advantage of. Many continue to be grateful for all of the money that he brought in for cancer research over the years. As flawed as he is, the cancer fundraising was real.

I don’t believe any Livestrong funds went to cancer research.

When Wiggins is asked about doping he swears like a drunken sailor. Why so angry Bradley? Something to hide? Sorry, Jeff, but cheating has been an integral part of bicycle racing since it’s inception and that will not change.

How many times do you need to to be fooled before you can see?

Why? A clean rider wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to medal if by some miracle he could even make his nation’s Olympic team.

Gotcha. So there is no substitution for good base layer, as I kinda expected. Go cheap at your own peril. :D

Actually generic polyester works just fine, Princess.

No rain jacket breathes much. That’s hype. I’ve used both REI jackets and I prefer the Stratos. I think the Express might be 2 layer while Stratos is 3 layer construction which seems to hold up better. The Stratos is on sale right now, I’d go for the upgrade.
