Since the closure of the mailroom in NEOB, due to increased security following 9/11, messenger deliveries to White House and the Executive Office Buildings have been banned for years now. Clandestine rendezvouses of bike messengers and willing recipients of deliveries to these locations have occurred at this coffee shop.

Haha, at least it got you to finally register and post on the forum! Howdy neighbor! Where do I know you from if you haven’t posted here before? Facebook, Strava, it’s a small world. We live within blocks of each other, yet never met in real life.

His brake ruined his rim, the tire/tube were innocent bystanders.

Riders pass me for some other reason than to provide a draft?

Yep, well aware there is another month and a half to go, problem is I’ve got another two week out-of-country business trip starting Feb 10th and going through Feb 22nd. While I’m devising ways to get on a bike (watch Strava for some interesting locations) I don’t see how I’ll get to 500 miles in Feb.

Think we could convince the Gods of All things Freezing Saddles to allow for a pinch-hitter (or pinch-cyclist in this case)?

Perhaps Mark Nielsen will come out of retirement for the occasion. Enjoy your travels!

You girls rock! Keep up the good riding! I rode 418 miles farther in January than December.

You all are motivating people. I just passed 500 miles for the month. I know that some of you routinely have months that are double that (and thankfully one of those “some of you” is on Team 10 with me!) but for me that is either a new, or close to new, record. It’s been fun. Thanks!

    This month 389 miles
    Last month 174 miles

June, july, and august of this past year had more miles in them (and august not by much), but that’s it. It has been fun.;)

When you say it’s been fun, it sounds like you’re done. I hope you know we have another month and a half to go! :p

I’ve finished January with my best milage total for any month November to March thanks in part to this challenge. Thanks all for participating!

I had my second biggest monthly total since I began keeping track in March. August was more because I was trying to get second place locally in the National Bike Challenge, and you didn’t make it easy.

The MBT wasn’t plowed to surface, a layer of snow remained, but it was rapidly melting out at 10am yesterday and completely dry this morning. Refrozen boot and bike tracks makes treacherous riding.

Awesome! Honestly, I’ve never seen a plowed MUP before yesterday.

Bicycles are made of stronger stuff than automobiles.

Unfortunately my front brake was fine. I let go of it when the front wheel started to push, and I yanked on the rear, perhaps forgetting it wasn’t working. I guess I panicked when the rear brake did nothing (I wasn’t going very fast) and squeezed the front again. These things happen so fast, I don’t really know what happened, just trying to reconstruct from memory. I have hydraulic brakes, I looked at it but I couldn’t see what was wrong. I think fluid may have leaked out of brake line.

Ugh. I through it away again today. My rear brake quit working early in the day. Probably a factor in the fall I took on the final downhill section of my evening commute. Be careful out there.

No phone booths anymore for Superman to change back into Clark Kent before arriving at the office. :(

No overnight lockers (but there are showers) and my new office is pretty formal, so I can’t really go up in my bike gear to grab my suit. So I have to have at least shirt/shoes/pants with me when I roll in, so I can get up to the office totally dressed.
