Team DRock hit Rock Bottom on Saturday for lunch. I had a small white ale. It was fine; tasted like beer. Meh. (Went to Mad Fox again last night and had an Orange Whip. Score!)

As you may be able to tell from my Strava feed, I am not comfortable riding in the snow or the ice or the slush, but I’ve managed at least 1 mile every day so far. About a day after snow, the roads in my neighborhood are just fine for my 28 slicks. I ride in the middle of the road, slowly, so I can see any dangers ahead (I’m generally riding at night). One night, because of the ice, I drove my bike to a place I knew would be OK. For a couple of snow days, I rode my kid’s old mountain bike. Those tires were knobby (they are all worn down in the middle, but not on the edges) and the seat is very low so I can always put two feet down.

Yesterday, I got out early, while it was still raining/sleeting and didn’t have any problems. Today, I can ride around the neighborhood streets after work and shouldn’t have too many issues.

So, no secrets, just timing and moxie.

Citi bike station was down, so no sideways NYC ride today. [insert sad trombone noise]

I’ve been a little behind lately!
One warm weekend, I hit up Sweetwater Tavern. I had a beer sampler. It was just meh. I believe my favorite was the “diet” beer, the others were just too “beery.”

Another weekend, I went to District Chophouse and had a Weizen Bock. It was really good. I liked it a lot. I like wheat beers generally, and this was nice.

Later that same day, after getting a little confused with NE and SE and then SW, I went to Bluejacket. There I had a Grendel. It was nice, but not as nice as the Weizen Bock. As previously reported, I was given a sample of “Mothra” and missed my puppy dog. Fear not readers, she was safe at home, protecting the youth from Godzilla. Speaking of the beer Mothra, it was interesting. I might get it next time. Note that the glasses used at Bluejacket are funky and somewhat difficult to use and the tater tots were not as good as expected.

DKel and I went through the bike counter Saturday morning and I think it counted each of us twice.

While it does actually work for me, it’s Holy Week and folks may be trapped in their church jobs or on spring break vacations. Just sayin’.

Actually, I think you should probably stay off the bike for a while. It’s obviously being caused by riding in the cold weather. For your health, you should really take it easy.

#offtopic Yeah, that one’s funny, but not terribly accessible when I need it! Yesterday someone told me about the WSJ Buzzword generator. Linky. We were using them on a conference call and the other party didn’t realize we just started spouting buzzwords. “Looking forward to 2014, alignment will be key to our ability to piggyback the visibility horizontally.” Heh. Lolz.

It looks like from the pictures on Freezing Saddles that some have been beerneuring. However, it does not count for this contest unless make your entries on this thread. See the rules at the top of this thread for all of the info.

I’m holding back some pictures so that I can zoom to the top and win at the last minute without anyone suspecting anything.

How many bad words did you yell when that happened? I’m glad our children weren’t there to hear it.

Shockingly, none. At the time the sliding seemed almost peaceful. Like when things go in slow motion before the zombies eat you. I did yell at a car on Idylwood; that got a little salty.

Yeah, that was ice between Shreve and Railroad Ave. in Falls Church. After slipping out and careering, I walked to Shreve and took the roads. It looked like Fairfax County salted the roads, so I didn’t have any problems once I got off the trail.

Thanks all for the concerns. After that moment of wet feet panic, I did try harder to get the sock and shoes to dry using a little heater and some more attention (moving them around ever 30 minutes or so). While I would love to have an extra pair of socks at work, I only have three pairs of wool socks! I can’t spare a pair! Apparently, my water-resistant clothing only goes so far to keep me dry. I believe my tights were funneling water into(!) my shoes. Wool is very nice, but plastic dries much faster.

The ride home was gorgeous and the socks were only slightly damp. It was the first time in a long time I didn’t see any slush or ice on the trails in Fairfax or Falls Church!

… is looking like it will involve wet feet. Everything else is dry but the wool socks, shoes and shoe covers. Sigh.
