Another accident today NB GW Parkway Memorial Bridge at the MVT Bike Path crossing. Looks like a rear ender – two cars involved. Did not see a bike involved. The accident had already happened, was pulled off to the side onto the grass – aaaaaaand managed to run into the yellow traffic sign warning of the trail crossing. One driver was talking to a cyclists but the cyclists was on a bike standing – pretty clear the cyclists had not been hit.

Talked to a NPS guy last week whose excuse was “hump back bridge took ten years to get done” and “oh the historic preservation concerns.” That of course is BS. We cyclists have been interacting with NPS about memorial circle for – well I’ve been bike commuting for 2 decades so at least that long. And historic concerns? Getting those damn roads right will have ZERO impact on historic concerns. Those roads can easily be adjusted to make them safer without any impact on view shed or the bridge or anything. It’s just BS.

This would be due to team members not entering their zip codes when they registered or entering a zip code outside of our “community.”

    OH!!!!!!!!!! Huh! Thank you!

Yup – that was it. BUT That is absolutely STUPID. We are commuting TO the same place (I assume). WDC. But bc some are coming from Rockville, some are coming from Arl Alex. Some are coming from Silver Spring, our local score is different. This is dumb dumb dumb.

I think someone is going to have to crow bar this thing. Identify the local teams, and then do a weekly score card or something.

Thanks. Yes, now I understand – although it still doesnt make sense.

I am not following this thread but
    * ebikes already are on the trails
    * I havent ever seen an ebike speed – I see them going faster than me (but that doesnt say much) (in fact, the only speeders I ever see are the Spandex Kings)
    * Fed ebike rules are a great guide.
    * ebikes permit people to ride who could not otherwise ride (like they are getting older, like me)
    * Yes, more bikes the better.
    * Nope, it aint my trail. I share it with everyone in the community. I am THRILLED to see so many people on it.

Not everyone is a 28 year old fit male. Digging up the Custis Trail is a barrier to a lot of people. Distance can be a barrier to a lot of people. An ebike lets people bike who could not otherwise be bike commuters.

Seems like a great idea… I assume at some point as I get older, in order to keep bike commuting, I will be on an ebike.

Yes, we are working directly with APS on this…

Um. Okay. The principals are the ones charged with management of their campuses. If the principals are not in on board with this, then the visiting volunteers are potentially trespassers – and most schools have police stationed there. Are the principals on board? I would not want to be standing on campus outside of Yorktown handing mystery things to students unless the principal knew I was there and what I was doing.

Do you have permission from the schools to be doing this on school grounds?
Middle Schools generally start at 7:50. High School starts at 8:20. Elementary generally starts at 8:50.

I am asking. I am reading. I am not figuring out.

In total, team Federal Cyclists Commission is over 300 points. But as far as I can tell, only my points are showing up on the Leaderboard. Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong.

I set up the team. The members joined because I invited them through the software. The team is set for the national challenge. Multiple members have logged miles in June.

Have looked on the site. Have asked on their social network part. Have asked support.

Thank you if you have a clue (and even for the clueless)

So serious question. In the Natl Challenge, I am finding some serious latency between logging hours and the hours showing up. Are other people experiencing that? Is it no big thing, the miles will show up by the end of the day (as in, if my team shows up, tries to log hours – and they dont show up – they will get frustrated and this will go dud). Is there a reason why the miles take so long to show up or am I doing something wrong perhaps?

The Federal Cyclists Commission is carbo-loading its ringers. (We are currently beating the, er, “snot” out of the other fed agencies) :p

The Portals II courtyard is a courtyard – it has building essentially all the way around. So no, you cant bring your bike in.

But, bike parking is available in the public parking garage and directly in front of the FCC.*

The Bike Fair will be small (dont want to be accuse of false advertising). Five groups – as a little neighborhood event I am totally excited about encouraging the locals to bike to work this month.

*the best way into the Courtyard is down the alley, northside of 445 12th St SW, to the public parking. Just inside the public parking, to the left, next to the bike racks, is a stairway up. The bike racks are perfect place to lock up (inverted Us).

email me if you want a copy of the flier. rcannon100 yahoo.

Access Portals Courtyard, at 445 12th Street SW, by going down the alley way North of Portals II (the FCC). At the end of the Alley is a commercial parking lot. As you go in, there is a stairway up to the courtyard to your left, near the bike racks. Follow the signs to the Capital Cafe. Google map http://g.co/maps/qsm4n
