Now that BAFS is over, pfffff. Tucked in bed with blankets it is.

(Have we reached enough reasons to get a fixie yet? I feel like we’ve digressed a bit.)

Well, that’s good, because dcv said this morning that he wants to do the Tri360 hill ride fixed again this Saturday. You and I can be the sweeps for the ride (since we’ll both be guaranteed to be off the back the whole time).

Yeah why not. If the downhill gets too crazy I’ll just lift my legs up and let the pedals do their thing. This is why we have brakes.

My legs seem to have spent the weekend internalizing fixie-riding, because this morning felt pretty darn good. I’m even thinking maybe I’ll bring it to the next Bikenetic coffee ride. Madness.

It’s a “clueless human” problem, this, for which a technological solution is but band-aid.

Teens should learn driving in Mumbai (or worse, Delhi), where if you let your attention waver for just the teeniest second, something undesirable is virtually guaranteed. Not that this stops drivers in these cities, admittedly.

Shoes, indeed – i figured the “mounted cleats” part would be a giveaway.

Hey, it’s the bike industry. SWorks could very easily = something fancy and uncalled for, like clipless handlebars to attach your hands to the perfect position for ever and ever and ever.

(also Monday has scrabbled my brain already)

…. shoes? This sounds like shoes. Or 44cm handlebars? Or teeny tiny S-works bikes?

Maybe. I’m hoping to leave work way early to get home and pack all the goodies. If all goes well, I may be able to join. Slow down as you pass the Custis junction. I’ll assume you’ll roll by about 5:00, so if it’s later than that and I’m not there, keep going.

I’ll probably hit that junction a bit later – maybe 5.20-5.30.

    Me!

For … uh… the side-bet about who can be me the best. Pretty sure I nailed it.

10 miles is doable comfortably for half that $.

My first commuter was a Trek 4300, for $550 or thereabouts. It was a heavy beast, yes, but did rides from 6-20 miles just fine (it could’ve done longer, except I never really tried at the time). If what you’re doing is mostly commuting and erranding, there are plenty of decent bikes in that price range.

    … was frabalicious.

First, coffee club. Then, an impromptu extended commute, where I encountered the nicest human in a minivan – she let me merge right ahead of her, and stayed behind me until we parted ways. Then, my first sustained non-trivial downhill on the fixie.

Then, surviving the potholed downhill hell of Jones Branch, still fixed. AND THEN, my first proper trackstand (it wasn’t a very long trackstand, but it was very legit).

And I made it to work before everything turned grey, even.

1/8 is my huckleberry, anyone else?

btw the website says they may not ride if it’s less than 30 degrees, let’s do it even if they cancel.

I … uh … haven’t fully adjusted to downhills yet. It was only yesterday I went down from Virginia lane without feeling the need to tap the brakes. I can go upward, though.

My hypothesis of “if I wear spring clothing maybe I’ll fool the weather into getting warm” has been debunked. Boo.

Did get some low-five double trouble today, though.

Lots of savings on car insurance though, if you park the car weekdays instead of commuting it.

Pretty much why we sold our car a long time ago – we were spending much more on insurance every month than on anything else. Now it’s Zipcars for Shenandoah hiking trips, and trailer for Costco runs. Boom.
