Tranquility abounded this morning – seriously considered calling in sick or dead, possibly maimed. Just…too…nice to stay indoors.

Was not stellar last night. Got a flat in front of the Lincoln Memorial at which point Glargon Lord of Sky Tears decided to rain more of his despair down upon me. The culprit – a fricking shark tooth – EXPLAIN THAT ONE SCIENCE!

This a post-modern interpretation of ELITE – it has come full-circle, passed “Go,” and collected its bucket of crazy. Respect for the glasses, minus a billion points for the fan-pahk.

Lost mine last week, but I was sorely in need of an upgrade. I believe the scientists call it red tide… it was definitely making inroads in that bottle.

If you can pedal a CaBi up Rosslyn Hill then I can guarantee you that, if/when you buy a used bike, you are going to feel like friggin Superman pedaling around town.

Mostly true, but I did manage to capture these images in September 2012 in Arlington. I didn’t use any special equipment. The lightning bolts were so intense and long-lasting that I knew I could time the next photo and take the picture with just my standard digital camera.

I always seem to get flats (three times) in the summer, on Memorial Bridge, during thunderstorms. I need to start packing Depends to go along with my spare tubes.

You: Lady in blue Smart Car turning left onto 15th from Constitution this morning.

Me: The guy that clearly had the walk sign and was just….so…close to getting into work.

I appreciate that you have a nimble, albeit inefficient, vehicle that has probably earned you equal amounts of scorn and praise for its enviable parallel parking abilities. What I would like to bring to your attention is that I am not a parking space and that you should not, repeat not, attempt to park on top of me. While my yellow safety vest may give the impression of a curb, and my handlebars, viewed from an odd angle through what appeared to be your Grandma’s opera glasses, may appear to be a parking meter, I can assure you that I am not a parking space. I would also question the wisdom of driving so aggressively in a vehicle so ill-suited for the task. I recommend that you watch a documentary called Mad Max, about your people, in which you can learn more about the basics of “up armoring” your conveyance.

I didn’t notice the humidity, but the ability to feel my fingers and toes was really welcome!

I’ve been meaning to move away from my current Look pedals for quite a while. The cleats need to be replaced on a regular basis and tend to exhibit catastrophic failure when the front tongue reaches a critical wear level. I like eggbeaters for my MTB.

Ate it hard last night on the W&OD on Fire Station Bridge – now suffering from lopsided buttocks syndrome – the other LBS.

I got in somewhere between 4,800-5,000 this year. I’m thinking right around that amount for this coming year. Those are all commuting miles. If I start knocking out centuries again then it might go north of 6,000 pretty quickly.

Pffft. I’ll take my 3×5 Inspiration Card with Star Trek-flavored affirmations taped to my handlebar “Spock:A curious metaphor, doctor, as a stallion must first be broken before it can reach its potential” , percussive mouth jet sounds, and my 7-11 ELITE cellphone camera over this any day.
