Participant- How do you toggle the map to show open docks rather than available bikes? Kinda annoying to have to tap on a station to see the open dock count.
- “Scan to ride” — tells me to “Enable Lyft’s camera access in the Settings.app”. A) That should read “CaBi”, not “Lyft”.
“Settings.app” — “.app”? nerd alert!
- Collecting my cell phone number — why? Dislike. They have my credit card # and can push notifications to me, isn’t that enough?

The County budget for next year mentions Arlington PD hiring six traffic and enforcement control officers so this might be changing. Source page 9 of https://arlingtonva.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/18/2020/02/Manager-Presentation-Proposed-FY-2021-Budget.pdf
That doesn’t sound like much. How many are there now?
Alexandria City fairly recently began to admit that traffic enforcement positions are basically budget neutral – they generally generate enough revenue from fines to cover their salary, benefits, etc. So if the goal is Safety First you’d think the county would hire as many as they could, up until they can’t write legitimate citations fast enough to pay for themselves. My guess is that the local jurisdictions could each use 3-5 times as many traffic enforcement officers as they have today and still generate the same average revenue per officer.
BTW Alexandria has also posted budget proposals online; after a quick skim I don’t see any proposed increase in traffic enforcement positions.

A reminder again about the poll – plus, as noted, T&ES will be presenting results to Council this Wednesday,
Tuesday, you mean. The 11th.
Also the City has a new service request system; here’s a more direct link: https://www.alexandriava.gov/request/CNC_GROUP

“something similar” is a specific conclusion?.
Yes. You’re pretty clearly accusing the deceased of negligence. For all we know, a large animal sped toward the trail as he approached the bollard. Oh, but maybe you would blame him for not holding his line anyway. Lack of attention, right? Or something similar, surely.
Also your whole blame-the-moving-thing line of argument is ridiculous. “Don’t blame the bear trap (or the person who set it beside the public hiking trail) – it’s the dog’s fault for not looking where it stepped! The trap was just sitting there, perfectly still and therefore it, and the person who placed it, are blameless! What do you mean, it is designed to injure? So what? Without the animal’s movement there would have been no injury!”

ParticipantSticky talks about more heavily weighting the early miles of “each ride”, not first miles each day. If I have two five mile rides on one day, is that 2×50 = 100 points, or just 10 mi / 65 points?

ParticipantWhen you say midnight on the 18th, you do mean one second after 11:59:59 pm on the 17th, right?

ParticipantSite update: fencing is still blocking both sides of the bridge. No ceremony, no access.

Sadly, it looks like the opening ceremony has been postponed until further notice. https://www.alexandriava.gov/recreation/info/default.aspx?id=112204.
But is the bridge now accessible? A week ago or looked like both ends were blocked.
Side note: about half of the Wayne Anderson Bikeway now has fresh asphalt and no longer goes tha-dump, tha-dump.

ParticipantAh, John Townsend, the #1 reason I talked my spouse into allowing our AAA Mid-Atlantic membership lapse… they’ll have to wage their campaigns to induce demand and marginalize non-automotive uses without my money.
Bon courage, Josephine!

ParticipantFor those who have not heard, Alexandria City Council today voted 4-3 to implement the “road diet” on Seminary Road East of Howard that was originally proposed by City transportation planners. Council approved this even after City staff abandoned the road diet in favor of a “compromise” plan that seemed to please no one.

ParticipantI was up this way today and saw no signs of trail closures (other than the fair weather section between Beauregard and Ripley). Maybe this means they’re done?
There are some seconds of the concrete portion with various loose, traction-decreasing debris, but the trail is open.

ParticipantWow! Have your asked any of the public libraries if they would be interested in having them and making them available to customers?

ParticipantFrom this Call.Click.Connect request (follow the link for a photo) it sounds like Holmes Run trail has some problems even above the High Water detour: https://request.alexandriava.gov/CCC/?t=183625
Quote:Holmes run trail north of 395Damage from the floods:
The dirt at the end of the boardwalk has been washed quite a bit, and is now covered with deep ruts
The river rock transition from the dirt to the concrete is gone and is now a foot deep pit
There is also a tree down on the trail
Remaining portions of the trail have dirt swept over it, and it looks like the ground around the trail lost quite a bit of soil
Also there is a large tree stuck into the bridge at the crossing near the lower end of Dora Kelly, on the Holmes run trail
