Is she going to cut back on Capital Bikeshare expansion and bike infrastructure? I hope not.
The Mayor has the same vote as the other 6 Council members, the same $ to hire one part time aide, plus the gavel. The Mayor doesn’t have the authority to do much of anything without the support of the rest of Council. City staff report to the Council-appointed career City Manager.
Unless Council changes (i.e. enough Republicans get elected), I think Silberberg may be unusually weak, as she may be seen, despite being Mayor, as a voice of dissent. At least Euille is generally seen as speaking for Council, as the majority share his views.

ParticipantBumping this thread to ask Alexandrians to please vote! It appears to be a competitive race, so your vote really could help determine whether Alexandria has a mayor who advocates for bicycling or not.

Spreading the rear end by a few mm is not an issue on a steel frame.
Some prominent frame builders would disagree with you. While lots of folks have used Sheldon Brown’s cold set technique, I’ve also read of custom builders reporting frame failures after their frames were spread by others.

The problem is that you don’t know the proper route to travel through those cones.
That’s it! Officer Friendly set the cones up for a self-guided bike skills rodeo. It seems so obvious now!

Can we make this into the image on the back of the 2016 bike to work day shirt?
That’s from the Onion, right?

It won’t matter if someone else gets a picture of their bike being held by a super hero(ine). Could happen any minute.
No, Boomer is it, thanks to his flock of birds. He can post whatever he likes as the new challenge.

ParticipantFor sponge bathing, I heartily recommend sport sponges like those that Speedo and Tyr market for swimmers — very efficient and since you store them damp in plastic containers, they cool your skin off as they dry you. Also the big ADA/wheelchair bathroom stalls are a good substitute for a locker room.
For rainy days you want to carry both your work clothes and an evening riding outfit. When you change at work stash the wet morning clothes in a plastic bag, don’t bother trying to dry them out.

ParticipantThat’s a cartridge bearing hub. I wonder if the preload was misadjusted and led to premature failure.
My experience with cartridge hubs is mixed. My MTB runs old Phil Wood field serviceable hubs and one of the original cartridges died within the first two months. The others have been fine. But while I only use cartridge bearing bottom brackets, I’m happy with loose ball hubs on my road bikes.

So, next year when I bring my bike in for a tune-up I should ask for the hubs to be greased and repacked? I wasn’t aware that not doing this could ruin the hubs.
Every year? That depends on several factors — hub/seal quality, riding/parking/storage conditions, mileage, etc.
Btw, when dkel says “sealed bearing”, he means “cartridge bearing.” All decent hubs have seals protecting the balls. It’s more useful and far less confusing to talk about “loose ball” (which most folks take to include retainer clip designs) vs. “cartridge” bearings.

Sounds like a colossal waste of money to me!
Seriously. If they want to raise Eco-awareness they should focus on the thousands of people who drive autos across the stream each day, not the hundreds of human-powered trail users who move alongside it. One can’t bike past the herons and fishermen wading in the sewage treatment outflow and fail to think about water quality. They’re targeting the wrong audience.
