ParticipantFYI, Jan Heine recently blogged about riding gravel on non-knobby tires. Naturally it’s largely an ad for Compass but still, as usual, a good read: https://janheine.wordpress.com/2016/04/11/gravel-racing-on-compass-tires/

OK, this seems really stupid, but the idea of exercising while commuting by bus or train is not SO crazy.
Hear, hear!
They’d better have a top-notch HVAC system, though.

and on BTWD no less.
Maybe we should collectively award prizes this BTWD to local jurisdictions. Maybe a tacoed wheel for the worst Falls Church-style hazards-for-your-own-good reaction?

He probably should spend some time trying to find the original source and crediting it first though, right??
Weak, Tim. You can do better than that.
Actually Bob did use a CC license (the Flickr mobile site obscures that a bit) but Bicycling hasn’t adhered to it, as they have failed to provide all the “appropriate credit” required by the “CC BY 2.0” license. Specifically, the lazy magazine crew failed to link to the pic on Flickr.

ParticipantHmm, not released with a Creative Commons license. Fair Use, or should Bob send them a DMCA takedown notice?

I have to assume this is already on some list of improvements, but one thing I need to see ASAP is repaving Commonwealth north of Reed St. I’m assuming they’ll do it once they’re done upgrading whatever facilities are down there, but that road is terrible now!
Not on the list through June 2018 – https://www.alexandriava.gov/PublicWorks#FY2016PavingProgram

ParticipantTim, that paint job is so… plain! Get that kid some decals!

ParticipantCaBi’s 2014 member survey: “Ninety-one percent of respondents said they would be somewhat interested (31%) or very inter-
ested (60%) in a Capital Bikeshare fob or SmarTrip card that they could use to access both Capital Bikeshare and public transit service.”But Metrorail serves 25x as many people as CaBi. If 90% want a single card, it seems likely that the existing CaBi members are WMATA users. How much can CaBi grow without more equipment? How much of an increase would it be for WMATA if CaBi maxed out? How many of those riders would bring additional revenue to WMATA?
I imagine CaBi has already reached out to WMATA and been rejected.

ParticipantY’all use your fingers to spread the fluid? Ick. I use the fluid tube mouth. I carry a spare and patches. Use the spare first, patch if needed. Use a twist tie to mark the puncture location on the damaged tube. Collect punctured tubes at home, patch them all when I have 3 or 4, as I have bad luck with fluid drying in the tube after first use. Use your oldest patch kit as fluid will dry after a number of years even in an unopened tube.
And the most important thing is eliminating the source — remove the thorn, fix the rim strip, inflate to higher pressure, whatever is needed to prevent recurrence.

ParticipantBob, nice attempt to lead me down the Fair Use rabbit hole. How does that saying go, if the facts aren’t on your side, quote the law? I never said Tim broke any law.
I do think it’s immature, selfish, and wrong to copy someone else’s work unmodified, unadorned, without citation. That’s disrespectful and remarkably lazy considering how easy it is to copy and paste a URL. Your lengthy attempts to convince me that it’s permitted under US law aren’t convincing me that it’s right.

You mean you want a link to a random “funny pictures” dump that has reposted things from everywhere else? Why?
Because giving credit is the right thing to do. Or if you think they’re blindly stealing stuff such that you don’t have any real prospect of crediting the creator (or IP owner), don’t “use” (=copy without permission) it. (For your reading pleasure, the creator of The Oatmeal on dealing with one such dump that profited off illegal copies of his cartoons: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk )
The Internet is full of people freely giving their work away — bajilllions of Flickr pics explicitly released under Creative Commons licenses, etc. IMO it’s immature and selfish to just copy somebody else’s work without making even the slightest attempt to give credit.

there are a few things that one might not want to be visible to anyone watching (e.g.) the starbucks wifi traffic:
– Their password. Especially if they happen to use this password for any other website.
– Their email address. Probably is only transmitted if someone visits their profile settings page, but not out of the realm of possibility. And their forum “remember me” authentication cookies. If I can just get on the same WiFi as Tim long enough for him to make one single Web request I can read his saved PMs, add that Tumblr link, change rcannnon’s avatar to a cat pic, you name it…

So link to Tumblr.

ParticipantOr maybe giving credit to the source instead of just re-uploading a copy?
