I can only imagine the soul crushing despair when at mile 120 you hit this corner for the second time:

Because right after it’s 10% for almost 6 miles. Here’s me and 5 minutes of pain. You can see at 1:18 where I wish I had an 11 speed.

ParticipantWhichever you buy, wherever you buy, make sure they have a no-issue return policy. my bad experience with GoPro was made super easy because I bought it at REI and not Amazon.

ParticipantI’m in. Just making sure to pack the Ziploc wallet, and the rain gilet.

Negative. Soooo, put the fixie away for this one, huh?
I haven’t ridden it yet either. More liked rode up, stopped, rode a little bit more, stopped, walked, tried to ride again, failed, walked, then rode the flat part, walked, and finished.

Pete is spot on! I especially like the Coxey Brown option. 2 miles/1000 feet of climbing. Now, anyone dumb/crazy enough to do this?? I even made a Strava route so we dont get lost!
Have you actually ridden Coxey Brown?

ParticipantThere’s something to this commuting thing. If Strava has me burning 1100 calories each way, getting down to climbing weight is going to be easy.
Today’s commute was on the Commutotron (aka Trek 7300), since I wanted the use of my pannier to carry the laptop, power brick, and a spare set of clothes. I had to stop along the way to adjust the pannier clips, since the contents weighed as much as my road bike, and had slid down the rear rack, so each pedal stroke ended up with a heel into the side of the pannier.
Oh, and it’s late-season blackberry harvest time it seems. I saw 4 people along the W&OD picking blackberries from Vienna all the way out to Sterling. So be careful folks.

ParticipantNo, you’re missing the key point to “Everesting”… You have to ride the SAME SEGMENT for 8,848m, in a single 24 hour period.
Here’s the number of climbs you have to do of each of the following:
1) Walter Reed – 119ft – 244 times.
2) Jay Miller- 136ft – 214 times
3) Patrick Henry – 160ft – 182 times
4) Quantico – 100ft – 291 timesOther Segments:
Powhatan Hill – 135ft
Mt Daniel – 77ft
41st St – 106ft
Anglers Hill – 222ft – 130 times.
Woodburn Rd: 224ft
Bluemont: 311ft
Thomasville Rd: 377ft – 86 times.
Mt Weather – 869ft – 33 times.
Coxey Brown – 991ft
Ascent to Dickey Ridge – 1171ft – 24 times.PeteD
ParticipantMe: Riding two abreast with DKel on the downhill ramp to difficult run.
You: Couple of riders in succession that didn’t call your passes.Oh wait, DKel heard you and I didn’t.
Me: I should probably get a bell. I must be going deaf.
Dkel: Vocal calls are difficult to hear sometimes. And I probably should have said to your deaf comment, What?Sorry to the folks that called their passes that I didn’t hear. I will work on getting the cotton out of my ears.

ParticipantI actually commuted today!
Who knew that you could use your bike for something other than just getting coffee?
–Pete
PeteD
ParticipantMy “commutes” for coffee have me riding about 53 miles. I generally take Mondays off. Thursdays tend to be a coffee+workout day, so the mileage can vary there. Then I get in a longish ride in on Sunday mornings (50-65 miles), so I’m generally around 160 miles a week.
Next couple of weeks should be interesting; I’ll probably actually be working from our site in Ashburn, so that’ll bump up the mileage a bit.
All this in prep for my Skyline Drive Double.

ParticipantYou: Person turning right onto Walter Reed from Four Mile Run.
Me: Riding down the W&ODI was slowing down as the walk signal and light on 4MR were still red, then changed. I watched you in your commercial vehicle have to come to a quick stop after you had started to not hit the two folks on bicycles that were crossing the street legally. I was thankful for you not plowing into them, but your actions caused me to not realize that the person in the white mini van, which had pulled up and stopped, had indeed not seen me at all, and was in the process of pulling up to turn right when even emergency braking, I ran into the side of her mini van.
After 15 seconds of Jackie Mason / Sam Kinison level cursing (I think caused by my realization that I had come close to actually being rolled over by her rear wheel), I then channeled my inner Dirt and realized that she was shaking she was so upset, so we hugged it out. Other than my bruised butt cheek, everything worked out OK. I only had to adjust my handle bars a few degrees (always carry a wrench set in the seat bag). Front wheel spins true still, just a slight scuff on the left break hood.
Needless to say, I will no longer be riding the trail as it parallels South 4 Mile Run ever again. Two Accidents and too many close calls (especially there at Walter Reed).

ParticipantSaw this morning as we were coming back from Rehoboth Beach, they had a truck with a 2 man basket/bucket on a long arm. This was about 9:50am.
