ParticipantHonestly, in these temps, I don’t really worry about it much. No special gear needed. Wool socks are almost always a comfortable temperature whether wet or dry. Same tends to be true for the tech shirts from JL Racing—and they dry quickly. Bib shorts never sag, no matter how wet. And, a cycling cap keeps most of the rain out of my eyes.
Just maybe avoid holding onto metal traffic signal poles while waiting for the lights to change…OneEighth

I still gotta check out the alleged Surly.
I ordered parts for mine today, so I will have it back on the road soon.
Said alleged Surly is my ride of choice this week as the rain may cause the Specialized to melt. Or get dirty, which is way, way worse.
In theory, the Surly in question will leave the Meto Center area at 1630 today and proceed down the MVT to 4 Mile Run and the W&OD.

ParticipantAh, Cat6 fame is so fleeting. Thought I had the podium cornered, but no.
We shall meet again, Mr. Man-on-the-Van-with-the-camera-in-his-hand.
Congratulations on the crushing defeat of the Townie-girl.OneEighth
ParticipantWhat a Fredtastic way to start my morning! I’ll be smug all day long.
And, uh, at my age, chicks in minivans would probably be the most realistic target demographic…just sayin’.

ParticipantThanks very much for the heads-up. Glad it turned out as well as it did.

ParticipantI was under the impression that it was legal south of Alexandria. Lord knows, there have been cyclists on the GW Parkway ever since I can remember and I grew up not far from the stone bridge.

ParticipantI had my eyes closed again going through the Columbia Pike intersection, so my riding experience remained blissful if somewhat ignorant.
Do we get capes or something to go with our newly discovered power to induce stupid behavior? Riding a fixie with a cape…what could possibly go wrong?
Good riding with you again.
Cheers.OneEighth
ParticipantOn the few occasions where I’m driving rather than riding, I also make a point of waving or giving the thumbs up and I get my kid to do so, too.
It’s nice to get a friendly wave of support when riding and it’s also a good reminder to cyclists that there are plenty of drivers who get it.

ParticipantI even love it in February when it’s snowing. I remind myself regularly how lucky I am to have a commute that makes me happy.

ParticipantBummer that it turned out to be a more expensive fix.
Good luck with the new crankset, here’s hoping it gives you many good miles.OneEighth

ParticipantI hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record
Oh yeah? Well, don’t get so distressed
Did I happen to mention that I’m impressed?I like having a little Violent Femmes in my head for the evening ride.

ParticipantI finally noticed that there is a surveillance camera in place at the Scott Street intersection. Guess that answers the “how are they gathering data” question.

Participant“No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.”
-Hunter S. ThompsonGood riding with you again, Pete. I now think of you as “the man on the Van (Dessel) with the camera in his hand.” With apologies to Mike Watt (who is the man in the van with the bass in his hand…and is awesome).
Good luck with the frame. Hope that works out, but you have clearly already found the silver lining as this is a reason to build something new.
Seems to be the week for road rage. Glad that my only brush with it so far was with a gaggle of inattentive Freds at Hains Point.
Shiny side up!

ParticipantWhat kinds of data and how is it going to be collected?
Not sure what kinds of performance measure(s) one would use to determine return on investment for this beyond a common-sense based argument. -
