Not sure how I will go back from Capitol Hill to near EFC.
Thru Gtown, across Key, Wilson to Washington Blvd.

ParticipantUp-river side path on Key was mostly clear yesterday evening for about half the span. The other half still looked lumpy and icy.
Really appreciated how all the cars held still for me as I crossed into Gtown this morning, though!OneEighth
ParticipantIf trail users take to the roads and take the lane in sufficient numbers (I’m picturing groups not individuals) it might make an impression, too.

ParticipantGot a look at the up-river sidepath on Key this evening. Saw mostly lumpy ruts.
Took my piece of the lane.OneEighth
ParticipantI used the road crossing Key.
Timing is a factor for sure.OneEighth
ParticipantThe streets were not bad. Slushy with the occasional lump of ice, but fine on 25’s. Just gotta be willin to take as much of the lane as necessary.
The sidewalk going across the bridge into Gtown looked partially cleared but also pretty bumpy. I took the road.
Be careful riding on the cleared streets with studs or knobbies.OneEighth

To the completely enraged, insane woman in a black Mercedes on McArthur before/during/after the one-lane bridge yesterday: you seriously need to take a pill. Following me while laying on your horn for 1/4 mile and then trying to block me from going across the bridge all while screaming that I should ride in the F&^^%%$# bike lane. Laying on your horn while tailgating me across the bridge and then screaming at me again. When I mentioned I had your tag # and was calling the police, you took off at high speed. Not sure what got your panties in such a wad, but seriously, calm down. Late model black Mercedes, TAG # AC 1465.
Mercedes not available in stick in the U.S.
Just sayin’.OneEighth

FYI: I read a recent paper that proved that people that drive BMWs tend to be a$$holes.
Only the posers who don’t drive stick.

I did an extra-late commute from Falls Church to Vienna on the WOD at about 10:30, and by then it seemed like a normal, rainy commute. If temperatures go up as planned, things should be fine for the evening ride, or sleaze, or whatever. My only problem is that all this weather has caused my bike to be encrusted with grit everywhere, particularly where I notice it the most: drivetrain, rims…really frustrating, really time-consuming to clean up, really going to destroy the brakes in short order.
This is when a fixed gear really pays off—thorough clean-up is quick and easy.

ParticipantIt was great to catch up, but the like is for seeing ArlingtonRider smiling beneath the mask. You just know she is!

ParticipantVaseline or Aquaphor on the exposed parts of your face can help quite a bit, too.
