ParticipantHose down/clean up with WD-40.
Lube with 3-in-1.
Run a rag between the rollers to clean each link when WD-40 doesn’t cut it.February 25, 2014 at 11:09 pm in reply to: Starting a new job in a few weeks up by Sidwell Friends, route suggestions…. #994650OneEighth

Plus heading downhill you will be keeping up with traffic, if not passing it. Now if DDOT could only get the light timing right for bikes heading north on Wisconsin. Sigh.
I’ve never found the lights to be a hindrance when going up Wisconsin…

Like Pete, I use the Exposure light and mount it beneath the bar to allow me to use the tops close to the stem. I keep the light on a lanyard just in case. Front brake on the right.
No data.
No problem.February 24, 2014 at 4:10 pm in reply to: what does your cockpit look like? (Wireless computer/headlight interference) #994447OneEighth

Wrap your light in aluminum foil and see if that’s enough to help. Probably not, but it’s a cheap and easy experiment.
Or just line the inside of your helmet with it.

I ordered from State Bicycles (the Matte Black 4 model). It was cheap, yet decently customizable and stylish. Time will tell how well it holds up, but based on my ride in, it rides really smooth, felt solid over bumps, and was responsive on the hills. Weighs about 21lbs, so not as light as the more expensive fixies, but that’s part of the cost tradeoff.
That’s about what my steel Surly Steamroller weighs. Unless I put the Chukker wheelset on and then it feels twice as heavy.

The hardest part for me is coming to a stop with my feet in the right position to unclip and put the correct foot down. I can manage just fine coming to a stoplight, but creeping along with some traffic this morning was really awkward.
Just unclip and drop a foot as needed. Immediately grab the front brake, pop the back wheel off the ground, and spin the still-clipped foot to a good starting position. Becomes second nature.

ParticipantHit the trails a little befor 0700. Custis to W&OD to 4MR to MVT to Lynn Street was pretty decent. Some run off had turned to slush and there were the ocassional icy or frosted patches, but nothing you couldn’t handle at a decent clip on 25s.

Was that dbb not seeing me wave as he prepared to leave the L’Enfant Plaza CaBi station with a large group?
He didn’t respond to me shouting as he pealed off the MVT onto the Crystal Connector this evening either. Serves me right for not catching him beforehand.

…motorcycle looks very sad.
I know, right? Gone are the days when I would shovel a path from my drive to the nearest plowed street because my street rarely got plowed and I felt compelled to motorcycle to work. Now I prefer to be cold and wet on the bicycle. Is that so wrong?
