Looks like I may be in a similar situation where I would want to disable automatic renewal but it won’t be for over half a year. I won an annual membership in the raffle from the Car Free Day. Luckily, they snail mailed me the notification because the email went to spam. Hopefully the renewal code is still valid next year.

I did click the Cancel button to see what was next. There was a pop-up that first asked for your reasons to cancel with a long list of checkboxes. Some reasons were too expensive, moved out of area, not enough bikes, but I think there were at least 10 and possibly any Other for free-form text. Anyway, choose one or more and click Next (or some other to quit the cancel process). The next tells you that you can suspend your membership for up to 12 weeks or you can confirm your cancellation. I clicked the link for the suspense and it shows a calendar widget. I stopped the process at that point (i.e. did not do membership cancellation or suspension). So I did not get stuck in the wizard, but the original Cancel button provides no confidence whether it is immediate or not.

Anyway, I think the automatic opt-in for renewal and the inability to cancel that would be considered a “dark pattern”. When I joined CaBi, the renewal may have been opt-in, but am not sure. I do wish there was legislation to regulate online subscription/renewal/cancellation.

It seems the Bike Angel program is back? I was able to get a point yesterday (Easter Sunday) in the mobile app. I have not see any emails though. Maybe it is a trial for people who previously participated as they work out kinks. Initially I saw some really big number for points until your next reward. Now that I have earned one point, I see 9 points until reward.

I’m not a member or anything, but an organization called USA Cycling is also asking that people ride solo.
This is from their twitter account. https://twitter.com/usacycling/status/1240053370649378817

Unless I am missing something, the Favorites (for stations that one wants to see in a list with current bike/dock quantity) is gone from this new app. Hoping that this feature will come back.

nuvem has also reported this item.

Aldi has a number of their bike-related items in stores this week (advertised as May 15 to May 21), including the bike work stand, helmets, gel seat, floor pump, lights, cable lock.

I ran into a station that would not let me take out a bike this evening. Its kiosk said Out of Order. I ended up walking home because I didn’t want to backtrack to another station. I did not report the issue, because I just assumed CaBi would be aware if the kiosk itself could say Out of Order.

I used to use B-Cycle sharing in another city. That is a system from a different vendor. At the time (5 to 6 years ago), that system had worse reliability where bike docking would not always be detected, but the bike would still be locked. Then I could not check out another bike again and had to call in for help. Reliability did improve over the years I was a member.

Anyway, I concur with Yule’s suggestions for CaBi.

I’ve picked up the Alexandria map at the Shirlington Commuter Center (along with bus maps/schedules and other pamphlets on the self-serve racks). I can’t guarantee how often they re-stock.

Note that the center is closed/doors locked on Sundays though. I think the doors remain unlocked most of Saturday even without any personnel there and probably weekday evenings as well.

I had some problems filling out the survey because the behavior was non-obvious.

When you are given the chance to rank 5 items for a specific geographical area, there is a drop-down in front of each item with numbers 1 to 5. Those numbers are not “independent”. If you already used the number “1” and then use it again on a different item, the first “1” will disappear. You must assign 1 to 5 uniquely. When you use a given number twice, the earlier item’s ranking is blanked out and you need to go back and re-assign it (with a different number).
