The proper response is “Beltway!”
I always preferred “Kill yourself immediately.” As far as the idiots on phones – when I was in town last week I saw five tourons/space cadets texting and oblivious to the world on the MVT and on Crystal Drive. I just don’t get it.

No, gold colored Nissan Altima. Maybe he had to start slumming it in a Nissan in order to keep up w/ house payments. Either that or he lives on King Street and is pissed about the newly approved bike lanes.
The dude that I always had run-ins with was a total clown. I found that laughing in his face was the best reaction to his tomfoolery.

You: The smug, self-important prick in the fancy suit driving up Potomac Avenue this AM through Potomac Yard.
Was he in a silver Infiniti by chance? If so, I ran into that guy pretty regularly when I lived in Crystal City and rode Potomac Avenue in the morning. If it makes you feel any better, and this is the same needledick, he lives in those terrible overpriced townhouses behind Target and seems to live a pretty miserable life.

Errr, I guess I’ve been hibernating… you back in town Mr. Fargo?
Just through tomorrow morning. I’ve been rocking the CaBi while I’ve been here. Not too bad of a ride. If they had a fourth gear they’d be perfect!

ParticipantRode from Rosslyn to Crystal City today on a CaBi after work. Boy do I not miss the MVT. To the dude stopping on the hill near the aeroport – posing for a self while you’re blocking traffic is a really dumb idea. No need to get pissy when people call you out.

You: Guy wearing big can headphones, riding EB on the W&OD near the Ohio overpass yesterday about 1800.
Me: Riding WB in my lane, thinking “Don’t pass now, don’t make that pass, no no no.”
Guy, you need to learn when it’s OK to pass and when it’s not.
Here’s a clue: if you have a bike coming toward you fully in his lane, and you have two folks running single file in front of you, and you are not going to be able to complete the pass before you reach the other cyclist, it is NOT a good time to make a pass around the runners. You’re lucky the runners and I were able to react quickly enough to avoid what would otherwise have been a really unpleasant crash.
Next time, just wait the 5 seconds, m’kay?
I never had that happen on the W&OD but that used to happen all the time on the MVT and it would drive me insane. Right before I left town this completely oblivious needledick with a bumblebee helmet, TT bike, and BMC team kit ran the dude in front of me off the trail doing that exact same thing. Nobody crashed, fortunately, but situations like that just should not, under any circumstance, happen.

Ok, I’m trying to grasp the concept. Are the front and rear wheels interchangeable depending on whether you are SS or need a multispeed cassette? Is there a shifter on there somewhere? How about chain length and tension?
Oops, I posted the wrong pic. I’m guessing (since I’ve seen this before on a Moonlander) that they swap out drive trains depending on the terrain. My riding partner runs his as a 9-speed and is using it for a pretty kick ass tour this summer. Here’s his setup:
Probably one of the coolest things he has on this build is the self-generating Supernova light.

I’d be interested to actually ride one of those… at least around the block. It is a very cool concept, but I can’t imagine that it handles well.
If you’re riding down in the river bottoms or doing single track this would be a really rad ride. It’s definitely overkill though.
My riding buddy just built one of these up and has me sold on this being my winter bike for next year:

Only other tape that does a decent job in white (but is quite a bit more ‘spensive) is the lizard skins stuff, but it (for me) is more slippy than goose poop when it gets wet. NB – i don’t like riding with gloves in the summertime.
I usually rock the white Fizik tape on my main bike (commuter, Cross Check) from September to June and then swap over to the Lizard Skins for the worst of summer. I was pretty skeptical of the Fizik tape at first but it’s stayed pretty clean, much cleaner than the SRAM tape I used to use.

My morning commute was full of eye ice.
I rode up to the Seward Coop last night and ran into that on the way back. Kept having to stop to deice my glasses. When I got home and took my jacket and jersey off I discovered I had an ice sheet on my stomach!

So your back in the area? Not just visiting?
I’m going to be back next week for work meetings. I was going to bring my bike but I think I’m just going to Bikeshare while I’m there.

hi everyone. thanks for all the input. I ended up buying a 1bd/1bath condo out in vienna near the metro station. I don’t think it’s very bike friendly… but oh well
Ouch. Are you biking to work from there? The W&OD out by Vienna is a great ride (except on the weekends). Just tell me you’re not driving to work on 66.

ParticipantI signed up for it and can’t wait. First week in April I’ll be burning up Crystal City and the MVT on a Bikeshare. Best look out.

ParticipantHow many of you bammas am I gonna pass on the MVT the first week in April? Just look for the defensive end on the Bikeshare blazing down MVT.

ParticipantFinally got the bike out yesterday for a quick test ride to see how bad the ice is here in south MPLS. For 22° degrees the ride wasn’t that bad once I pulled my hood up but daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn is the ice on the side roads a total bitch. Still, for someone coming off of a really bad leg injury and a two month layoff I handled the ride last night pretty well.
