ParticipantThat’s funny…. I was on a ride in Reston yesterday and noticed a tech mailbox across the street from a uva mailbox too. (Wahoos….as I bet you know [emoji3166])
Hmm you went on the same ride Tuesday – with Anne – that I went on yesterday. I bet that’s where you saw it [emoji57]

“Mogan” and “Magen” are transliterations of the same word, מָגֵן. They’re both approximations of a word written in a different alphabet. It’s not that “mogen” means “cheap wine” while “magen” translates to “star”.
[emoji50] so what DO they mean? I mean – what is it that encompasses both “cheap wine” and “star”? Is it translateable?
That’s very cool btw.

Oh Nadine, you make me laugh. Mogen David is a sweet wine of questionable quality. Magen David is the Star of David (Shield of David).
And I’m not of the six pointed star persuasion, but I might have done a bit of googling plus memories of cheap college wine.
Hahaha Whoopsie [emoji38][emoji2358][emoji1744]

ParticipantLike Accordioneur I was thinking it would be cool to post a pic of a star of David. Well good thing others did because I wad tired and didn’t wanna leave my group ride to detour to the synagogue. (Didn’t even occur to me it might not have one! That woulda pissed me off. Yes I’m Jewish – but not the synagogue attending kinda Jew.)
Luckily my sweet ride buddies kept their eyes open and helped me find a nice 5 pointed star. Good thing others find nice – what’s it called? Mogen Davids? Cvcalhoun is educating a number of us today [emoji38][emoji1360][emoji1364]

Participant2/9/21 – pizza
I took 3 pictures of 3 different pizza places…. Accordioneur posted one of them, so not bothering with the Italian store. I’ve never been to wild tomato in Glen echo and Beth said it was good but she didn’t sound excited…. So ima go with Lost Dog, which is an awesome place in so many ways.:
1) They have great beer, especially if you like ipa (Ok I don’t actually know about any of the other kinds because every time I waste my 1 possible beer/day* on a non ipa I regret it) and especially if my favorite bartender Connor is there. I mean I can just ask him what I want and he gets me a winner every time!
2) They actually are connected to a dog shelter…. And they let dogs into the store! (Idk about the restaurant – the store is first,)
3) their pickles are omg awesome
I haven’t actually tried their pizza, but my husband says it’s good, definitely better than the Italian store’s, which doesn’t surprise me because everything I’ve ever eaten at lost dog has been great.
They do have gluten free options – but the thing is I’m both gluten sensitive* and pretty severely lactose intolerant, so honestly the best pizza for ME is at my house. You got me interested in making some today! It takes a few hours though, so I might hafta wait for a sleaze ride day…..
I make the crust with mostly ground buckwheat & oats, & use 6+ month aged cheddar and maybe some swiss cheese on top. The lactose is all digested in aged cheeses (which taste the best anyhow. [emoji16]) My father used to make pizza – with whole wheat crust and mozzarella cheese. I realized only after I started making my own that I make it EXACTLY in the image of the pizza he used to make. Which makes me happy. Too bad he’s not here to try it. Maybe he knows [emoji848][emoji1744]
[*I can do 1 pc of bread or 1 beer/day – and come on, which would you do? [emoji848][emoji38] Especially at a place with great [emoji482] and a great bartender.]
So without further ado…. I give you the Lost Dog café /pizza deli

2/9/21 – Pizza! (but not Pizza Hut or Domino’s)
In Bethesda, you can’t go a block without tripping over a pizza place. I went to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. On the way back, I noticed M&N Pizza’s former location (which has interesting architecture and includes the word “pizza”), but decided against it since it doesn’t currently sell pizza. M&N’s current location is much more nondescript, and doesn’t say “Pizza” anywhere on it. And there was also Aden’s Pizza. However, since only one photo is allowed…[ATTACH=CONFIG]23848[/ATTACH]
What happened, you couldn’t sleep? It’s supposed to be nice out today! Or [emoji848] maybe you’re expecting a heavy work day…
So funny to see such an entry be yours. I was expecting cbganimal, since it’s early afternoon in Spain.

Participant2/8/21 – Japanese
Well I won’t be getting any beauty points for THIS pic – but the ride was nicer than the other options I found (which had prettier storefronts [emoji16])
I don’t think there ARE beauty points in this contest, but clearly some people are looking for pretty pictures….. Right, Josh? [emoji16]

Impressed you found “Japanese” spelled out in English. I was thinking you’d find “Japonesa” (which I would think would be valid given you’re in Spain.) Can’t believe you didn’t even hafta go there!

Participant2/7/21 – superb owl
Here’s a lovely tree carved owl atop Sena’s totem in the playground at Oak Park, across from WL high school! I’d forgotten about it but found it in my pictures.
I’d found it a few weeks ago on a tree carving ride I’d found on ridewithgps.com… so I talked Anne into riding there with me today, & took a today pic with my bike & the totem placard so you all can see the story behind it.
Except the sign isn’t legible here…. It is in my Strava pic though, which I think is the same pic. (Is it possible pix show up blurrier here than on Strava?)

Participant2/6/21 – ice cream & selfie
I went to Toby’s too (I live a mile from Accordioneur [emoji16].) The selfie with ice cream thing was challenging given my lactose intolerance and sugar avoidance – but my husband was happy to help. [emoji38]
Sooooo I brought a stuff backpack on my li’l ride, got a covered cup of mint chip, first on his list, and stopped at Toby’s at the end right before the last mile to home. Good thing it’s February! [emoji38]
I couldn’t fit the name of the place into my selfie – I coulda taken the pic from the street, but I’m frankly not that comfortable leaning my bike against a wall and going that far from it. Nevermind the Arlington crime rate – I’m just not doing it. You can see the awning with the name of the place if you scroll up a bit to Accordioneur’s picture. Or lookit my Strava post from today – it’s a quax, too. [emoji16]

We were biking on Bradley when suddenly she said “turn right! There’s your rose! [emoji38][emoji3]
