Participant2/17/21 – bird house, feeder, or bath, preferably with bird
I found lotsa bird houses and feeders and even a coupla birdbaths – which I’d never noticed before. One of the birdbaths is at the house of my favorite KingGinko! (How could I have missed it all these years? I bet that’s really the point of this game….)
I was relieved to see Josh say he musta gone out too late to get birds at the bird feeders because they wouldn’t land on them for me either (4-5pm.) They were right nearby – they were loud! But they were up singing in the trees, not the least bit interested in a snack. So [emoji1744]
I got my husband to help me choose a pic. He liked this one best.

Participant2/16/21 – crown or MASK with eyeholes –
happy Mardi Gras!Man I thought a crown would be easier to find because now everyone’s wearing lower face masks – who’s gonna wanna cover the rest of their face TOO?
But no crowns ANYwhere! And then when we were in Herndon Anne saw this in a store window!
I kept angling the pic to get less reflection but that turned out not to be possible – it was only possible to choose WHICH reflection. Here’s one with my bike in it. (There were a couple with a reflection of me reaching up. Maybe I’ll put one of those on Strava.)

That’s what the sign on the rock said, “Tory’s” being the sub anagram. It wasn’t that clear in person because of snow, and became less clear in the photo shrunk for posting, but it was the only one I found!
I don’t know who Tory is, but her part of the mountain we were passing through was beautiful!
Thanks!
Though I’m not the prize dude (so it isn’t important that I be able to find your word in your picture) it bothered me that I couldn’t figure it out! I can sorta see the writing on the stone now that you’ve walked me through it. [emoji16] My eyesight is not the best. [emoji1744]Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Participant2/15/21 – St Skeletor’s Day – skeleton or subanagram
I missed my 10th grade biology classroom on today’s quest. My teacher had a skeleton we called “flaco.” (She also had a fish we called “Notoque” because that’s what the sign on the fish tank said. For non Spanish speakers, “No toque” means “don’t touch.” “Flaco” means “skinny.”)
In the absence of Flaco I found a subanagram on my ride today – SOLAR.

Participant2/14/21 – heart
I found a number of [emoji3531]s. I guess I like this yard sign heart the best – especially cuz it’s not actually about Valentine’s day but actual caring sentiment …. Found in N Arlington – lyon pk or thereabouts.

2/13/21 – Diner & Bike
I really should have just taken a diner photo and moved on, since the weather moved in fastest than I expected. Instead, as typical, I used my precious cycling time to make a diner tour (among other things) of the brief morning. I did have to cut the tour short after 8 diners, as I saw the freezing rain quickly approaching on the radar.
Got caught 30min out, and made it home with nothing worse than ice covered bike and clothesSilver Diner gets the photo for here today. Nice colors and lighting, plus Silver Diner contributed to a clock photo a few days ago as well!

Your bike colors go SO well with the silver diner colors in the pic.
This must be the one in Clarendon. Looks exactly like my pic – except your bike is closer to the camera and matches the diner.

Participant2/13/21 – diner + bike
I was gonna get a pic of an interesting diner – metro 29 on Lee highway is at least not a chain, and I believe it’s an actual lunch counter site with a plaque on it about sit ins! (Or maybe that’s just nearby and the diner where the sitins happened is now a drug store. I forget.)
But I was concerned about my brakes working when wet so decided to avoid hills & go to Clarendon. This IS a nice diner – though it’s a chain [emoji2358][emoji1744]
And I did it when it was yucchy out. Not because I’m not a wimp (just lookit my speed [emoji38][emoji2358][emoji1744]) but because I don’t LIKE getting up and out early on a weekend day when I have a nice warm body in bed beside me. Priorities, baybee! Also I was surprised to find it was actually kinda nice out, though it sure looked scary from my living room. Oh and my studded tires worked better than my BOOTS. Every time I got off the bike it was slippery underfoot – but on the bike it was [emoji1360].
Today was a day when I didn’t expect to feel grateful for freezing saddles making me get out. But I did!

I’m not sure why I felt like I should be in this photo, but the heart wants what it wants. Found a rock, moved it, spent too long aiming/balancing my phone, triggered the timer, and hustled up the icy/snowy steps to the bull.
[ATTACH=CONFIG]23954[/ATTACH]This whole statue/monument is in the Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum.
Your pic is awesome. Also I’m totally stealing the line “the heart wants what it wants” to use at home, for when Alan expects me to be logical [emoji38]
Also here’s a picture of my homemade pizza. I’m never up for making pizza on a day when I’m doing a real ride -but after pizza day I wanted some, so I made it yesterday. Forgot to take a pix when it was just out of the oven, but here are tonight’s leftovers.
I make it on a cookie sheet. I woulda said I do that because it’s more pizza that way – but actually it’s exactly the way my father made pizza, so I’m probably programmed to make it that way. [emoji57]

Got the idea from Boomer, whose pic reminded me I’d seen something like it at Ted’s Montana Grill.
I went right by Crystal City Waterpark to get there. Maybe this summer we’ll have Fridays at the Fountain there again! [emoji3531]

Participant2/11/21 – movie poster
….or lack thereof
I went to the state theater. I was reminded when I got there & saw the posters that it’s really a music venue. [emoji2358] So I biked to Ballston regal cinemas – but their posters are probably all inside and upstairs. I thought they might have something outside. Uh yeah, Nadine – maybe when they open.
I wasn’t gonna go to court house at that point. I hadda get home and finish making the pizza I got inspired to make a coupla days ago on PIZZA DAY! I forgot to take a pic of me eating a slice for Josh [emoji16] I’ll do that tomorrow – there’s enough for 3 dinners.
Here’s one of the posters I got at the state theater, for your viewing entertainment [emoji16]
It’s different, anyhow. Wish I’d thought of the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse – great place.
I’m another one for breaking away. But now I really wanna see the movie Cbganimal talked about.

Angelika Film Center (Fairfax, VA) is a great venue for independent and specialty films. Unfortunately it was closed today for a private event. Like DCAKen, I tried getting a picture through windows, but it was too dark inside. Then Boomer2U cycles up looking for the daily photo scavenger picture, too. Boomer found a worker, kindly described what we were doing and asked if we could be allowed inside, with our bicycles, to get a picture. Some what reluctantly, the worker said yes. Score.
[ATTACH=CONFIG]23938[/ATTACH]Hahaha I needed BOOMER! I can just see him talking to the worker. I’m picturing him doing it on Spanish. But he can do Puerto Rican smooth in English too. Just perfect. Nice one!

Landmark Bethesda Row has something of the vibe of Pompeii these days–everything frozen in time when it was suddenly abandoned. There are two fading posters out front under “Now Playing” signs, even though they haven’t been playing since last March.]Wow now I’m gonna be thinking about Pompeii and the creepiness of this pandemic on my search today. Such an evocative description.
