ParticipantYou may want to ask in a Seattle based forum about where to ride if you haven’t done so already. The most active forum that I could find with simple search is http://forums.mtbr.com/washington/ which has about 5 posts/Day.
Seattle DOT main biking page. Here is a link about street sweeping which says that it’s handled by Seattle Public Utilities. Here is the main page for street sweeping, and there is a Contact Us link on the left side of the page.
Finally, here is a link to their Potholes page, and to the right, you can find a link to “Find It, Fix It Mobile App” to report problems.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantIf there is such a thing as light moderators or minions who only have permissions to delete new users in the last 4 days or so, or users who have less than 10 to 30 posts or so, then that would be ideal. These minions shouldn’t have permissions to see members profiles and email addresses and the like, because they don’t matter.
So what’s it going to be? DrEvil or Minions?

This is a content repost from the other threads about SPAM, which I would like to, but have been infected with a laze…
We’re in the process of moving to a system where newly registered users will not be able to post without their content being reviewed by a moderator within one business day. This would stop current users like yourselves from seeing SPAM, and would hopefully only be a minor inconvenience to brand new users.
Thanks for being part of the forum, and making all the awesome conversations about biking happen. Keep doing your thing, and know we’re working on it.
+1 for Captcha or other automated measures. One business day could be 3 days during the holidays, and I think most of us suggest this forum to others on weekends.

ParticipantSaw a folding e-Bike for sale at Marshalls just outside Tysons Corner(Google Map link) for $300. It claims to have a range of 38 Miles with pedal assist, or 20 Miles without it. However, despite the side of the box indicating that’s an e-Bike, I don’t see any batteries. The first three photos are of that item. The last picture shows another model that I saw at Marshalls at Fair City Mall in Fairfax, VA(Google Map link), which you can tell it has a battery. However, the price sticker says $500. The website listed on the box, http://www.rideibike.com redirects to https://ridegenesis.com, and they are not listed anywhere, but saw some information at their FAQ page. The battery is out of stock, and I doubt that they will make more.

ParticipantI slipped and fell an hour ago at my doorstep as a pedestrian, despite having a thermometer 6 feet away that says 34 F.

ParticipantFor hands, Bar Mitts are the winner according to others(I haven’t bought one yet, but I will). Walk around your neighborhood with your hands in your warmest gloves tucked in your jacket. You should feel very warm because there is no windchill. My guess is that Bar Mitts gives you the same feeling or close to it, so you could even use smaller and more flexible gloves.

ParticipantQuestions:
What’s admins preferred reporting method?
Does forum software show one entry for each SPAM post regardless of how many reported it or not? Some of us think that reporting the same post by multiple users would flood your inbox, so some wouldn’t report it. I generally report those that reply to legitimate threads with SPAM because they are basically hidden.
Also, I used to get about 200 email SPAM on a website that I have with email link for contact, but once I switched to a “Contact us” page and using a software to “bounce” SPAM to sender so the email address appear to have been terminated, SPAM dropped to one or two a week after few months to a year. However, per this FAQ, it requires the spammer to use a valid return address rather than fake one, otherwise, there is no one getting email unknown messages. However, if some of the spammers use valid email, like the companies that sell databases of email addresses, they would take you of their database, and you eventually get less SPAM.
5 Tools to Bounce Spam Email Back to Sender with Non-Delivery Notifications(I used MailWasher):

This is why Goretex was invented and so popular in activewear. It allows sweat to escape yet remains waterproof, bags can’t do that.

Ok, got it now after checking this Wikipedia article about Gore-tex. There are some who use boots that are not breathable. According to this page, genuine leather is breathable, including genuine vegan leather(Microfiber leather), but synthetic leather is not.

ParticipantI don’t see a difference between waterproof boots, and bags over thick socks. Both act as a windproof barrier. Perhaps this is a job for MythBusters.

ParticipantFor those who want to make their own, I think G-Street Fabrics sells more fabrics for outdoor activities than Joann Fabrics. I don’t think they carry Neoprene, but they carry similar stuff. They had a location at 7-Corners that is now closed. According to their web site, the only location left is at Rockville, MD. I am not sure if they have all of their collection online, but here is their Apparel/Polyester collection. Of interest:
1 – Polar Fleece and Minky, $10/Yard.
2 – Outerwear, $12-$17/Yard.
3 – Lycra Nylon, $25/Yard.You probably won’t save money by making one unit, perhaps if you make more than one item, like socks, and bar mitts. Amazon sells Neoprene fabrics, but you can’t feel them before buying them.

I don’t think this is accurate n18. Yes, your foot will sweat but you will reach a point where that process stops. You will then have dry insulating layers on top. Going the other way, you will sweat out your sock pretty rapidly and have wet insulation. That to me is more of a recipe for frostbite.
Cold weather climber’s take on vapor barriers:
I know that your feet get sweaty either way, but putting bags outside all socks causes less sweat. It also depends on how long the commute is and speed. I use my bike for transportation and usually could afford to go slow, 7 to 10 MPH tops, so it’s not for everyone.

ParticipantPut your socks on first, then the bag, then cut the excess with scissors. Doing it the other way around would make your feet sweat and you could get frostbite.
