I divide intersections between ones that deserve respect, and ones that don’t, so when I approach one of these intersections, I don’t keep riding like a zombie and give it the proper attention.

If I cross that intersection, I would start crossing, then stop just before the last lane and put a foot on the ground, then proceed when clear, or even dismount; which allows me to move backward just in case. This is easier to do with platform pedals. I do dismount and walk my bike at one particular at-a-grade crossing with poor visibility(IoD of Fairfax).

However, I like what semperiden suggested in this post(Using the tunnel to avoid S Glebe Rd light, link to Google Maps).

Another suggestion is to use MOM’s parking lot and use a crosswalk that doesn’t have a signal(Link to Google Maps).

Yeah, Weather Underground killed their API, and we never identified a replacement. I would not count on weather data for the balance of this year’s competition.

Here are some free weather API I found:

Add to the mix how hazardous they are to low income cyclists without lights at night + broken streetlights.

You can call your bank and have them issue a chargeback, but I am not sure how this works with bankruptcy. Check your credit card online statement to see if the charge was refunded or not. You may want to search the web for “chargeback bankruptcy”. Here is Performance Bike website on the Internet Archive:

After installing a new tube, use a flash light to see if it’s twisted or pinched before installing the final side of the tire. Indoor lights are not enough, you have to use a flash light. I spotted both twisted and pinched tubes that way, otherwise they looked normal to me.

They restarted work a couple of months ago. Maybe it will open this spring?

That port-a-potty to the right is pretty expensive to maintain. If it’s gone, then the work is discontinued, so I think you are right on the mark!

I just visited both Vienna and East Falls Church Metro stations. Vienna metro looks the same as in the previous photo. There is another poster at Vienna metro that says it would take 1.5 years for the parking lot to complete from November 2018. See this link.

At East Falls Church Metro, the Bike and Ride facility looks close to completion, see the photos below of EFC bike room. The “2019” in the sign is a sticker with same color as the rest of the text. The one at Vienna metro doesn’t have that sticker.

What’s the tire width/brand, and rim width or model? I would expect problems with slim tires on wider rims, some tires have specs on what inner rim width that it supports, but not wider.

It looks like Vienna Metro Bike & Ride room is going to be finished later this year, because they are rebuilding part of the parking lot. Picture as of December 3rd, but nothing seems to have changed:

I’ve read the study’s report, which is only 5 to 6 pages long, and it seems that they only browsed the web, looked up statistics, to come up with their conclusion, but I could be wrong.

It looks like no special treatment for the ELF, and it would be treated as an E-Bike. It’s about 4 feet; 0.25 Inches wide according to the manufacturer. I could live with a 3 feet wide bicycle, but not 4.

Also, to get coordinates (that I can easily use):

    1. Go to Google Maps
    2. Right-click on the point where you want the coordinates
    3. Select “What’s here?”
    4. Another popup shows at the bottom with the coordinates. Click the coordinates link.
    5. On the left pane, the coordinates show up like this: 38°48’30.8″N 77°03’12.7″W
    6. Copy and paste that into the post, along with when you hid Hobbesball (after it’s been found).

I found that “What’s here?” feature doesn’t work in open areas, like parks, it gives you the nearest address. For an exact spot, try this web site, then copy “Lat,Long” into the search bar of Google Maps, then click “Share”, “Copy to clipboard” to get a web link. I just tested it with both a desktop and Android phone, it worked in both cases:

Tried W&OD segment in Vienna from Tapawingo to Clark’s Crossing, worst spot is when approaching Park Street intersection, foot traffic and what not made the ice deeper. There are large patches of thin ice, and the worst parts are when transitioning from ice/snow to clear pavement, couldn’t get faster than 10 MPH with 25mm slick tires. Riding over snowy parts made it more stable. Just before Clark’s Crossing and to the west seems all clear till Hunter Mill RD, but didn’t go there.
