Welcome Big_V. I cross at Alexandria Avenue or Tulane. There’s plenty of median at Tulane to wait for an opening in traffic. How do you get from Hybla Valley to the GWP? If you ride Sherwood Hall Lane and Morningside, turn left on Park Terrace. Park Terrace intersects with Tulane. Bonus is a nice downhill in the morning (and climb on the way home :)).

I got soaked twice. Once leaving Crystal City. It was dry south of the airport. Started raining again around the WW Bridge. Pouring by the time I got south of Belle View and the rest of the way home. My waterproof pannier worked like a charm. My clothes and laptop were bone dry.

    Very cool.

I learned that there’s an REI in Woodbridge. Ok, now maybe my wife can talk me into going to Potomac Mills.

90% of weather forecasting is 1/2 mental.

I’m watching the Nats game. Rain delay…. Clear everywhere except over DC. Weird.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer started swimming in the East River. Classic.

Very cool. I played around using my 11 mile commute. The bike friendly route is very close to my normal route. The recommended route would save me a mile. The quickest route shaves about 1.5 miles but it would be a hairy ride. The estimated times are very conservative. My actual commute is 15-20 minutes shorter than the estimate.

Some good news is that the route to my mother-in-law’s house is not possible. :)

I’ve never had any issues with motorcyclists. As a group, I’ve found them to be more polite than motorists. There are idiots in every group, unfortunately.

Yep, this has been my experience. I’m actually surprised at how many motorcyclists wave at me.

….. nearly rolls through stop signs in your car before you catch yourself at last second and slam on your brakes?

….. looks over your shoulder when passing someone while you’re walking?

Another shout out for Alexandria. I voted Crystal City and “other” for Old Town.

How about time trial helmets? I wonder how much time it would shave off my commute?

Actually I’m all in for a jersey or bike sticker.

Just last Sunday I had the same ELITE thing happen to me….not just once but twice in succession. First guy passed me while I was passing a jogger. I was able to pull back. Then his buddy passed me just as I was attempting to pass again. Neither one announced. Actually now that I think about it, two ELITE passes is not my personal best. I had three Cat 6 Racers pass me in succession while I was attempting to pass a slower cyclist near the Reagan National Airport. None of them announced. It was obvious I was trying to pass but all three passed me anyway. I’ve been noticing a lot of bad passes on the MVT this year.
