Apparently many people think that the remake of “Wicker Man” could be the worst mainstream Hollywood movie ever made.

The first Wicker Man was really weird…. kinda like a hippie horror movie. The oddness of it is what made it work. The remake took all the oddness out, therefore, making it NOT work.

lol – well if anyone sees a guy trying the “LOOK MA NO HANDS” unsuccessfully on their commute home – it’s probably me!

Thank god. I don’t feel alone.

I was behind a woman this morning for about 3 miles, and I swear she was hands-free for almost the entire commute (hugging herself b/c it was a little chilly). She did, however, have a mountain bike, and I wondered if that was helping her….

needless to say, I tried hugging myself as well and lasted about a full minute (which is the best I’ve ever done!!!)

Am I only one who gets a little a helmet-strap-burn under my chin? It’s definitely worse on the days that I shave…. so it’s obviously related to razor-burn….. any ideas?

Noooooo! Cars with hard top roof (not a convertible or golf cart) are safe places because the electricity passes around you instead of through you. Just like when it hits a plane. It has nothing to do with grounding or insulation. Car tires are not insulating you from anything. Lightning is 10 million volts at about 30,000 amps and travels 6,000ft through open air. Do you think a 1/4″ thick car tire is going to stop it….? The car can get hit. It just protects you. Though you may need to replace some expensive electronics. Seen it, pretty funny.

On a bike, two things can happen to you.

    1) Direct hit from the main stroke or it’s feeders. Pretty much, you’re toast.

    2) Nearby hit. The voltage difference in the ground between your front and back wheel, and thereby your ass and hands will create a circuit. You’re also probably going to die. This will also happen if you’re walking with the difference between both of your feet.

    3) Not-so-nearby hit. Same as above, but not enough to kill you. What doesn’t kill you will hurt you. At worst, you’ll have lifelong problems. At best, you’ll be knocked off the bike and crash.

The safest place to be is in a building with 4 walls and a roof.

    Great. Now I’m terrified! Wheeeeeee!

Looks like DCist doesn’t like this either…. although, I love the idea of allowing bikes going the opposite direction of rush hour…. I also LOVE the idea of reserving the front/back train for passengers with bicycles!

Aren’t cars the safest place one can be during a thunderstorm? Because they’re “grounded” or something? Wouldn’t the same hold true for bikes? Aren’t we “grounded” because we have tires on the floor?

…Or this one of those tales that old wives used to tell?

I almost ran over a bunny this morning. The event shocked me HORRIBLY. I’m a frail vegetarian… I don’t even know what I would have done if I hit that rabbit….

It makes me want to wait at a stop sign on the W&OD and warn the cops that motorcycles aren’t allowed on the trail.

Then, when they try to protest, I’ll rudely interrupt them with a “HEED MY WARNING, SIR”

sorry….. i just have a little pent up anger toward hypocritcal cops on the trails….

Now, I am familiar with ยง 46.2-833 B, which now allows bicycle riders, motorcyclists, and moped operators to pass through a red light. The first criteria is that you have to wait two minutes or two cycles.

What exactly does “two cycles” mean?

    So here’s my question.

If I KNOW I’m not doing anything wrong (aka – earphone is one ear), but the cop says I’m doing something wrong – what do I do? I’m not the argumentative type… and I’d be nervous arguing with an officer.

Why should I be forced to do something if it’s not against any laws?

UGH! You are 100% correct. “In Virginia, it is unlawful to operate a bicycle while using headphones on or in both ears (VA 46.2-1078).”

That makes me so angry. How am I supposed to take that jerk seriously when he doesn’t even know what he’s talking about?! If you’re enforcing the laws that people need to follow – It’s important to know the laws that people need to follow.
