ParticipantThere is usually parking at Daingerfield Island / Washington sailing marina, further south along the Mount Vernon Trail, at any time of the day.
In addition to the paved parking areas, near the trail and at the marina, there is a large gravel over-flow lot at that location.

Georgetown- First year for me coming here
Definitely the Foodie stop – chocolate croisants, cupcakes, fresh granola, yogurt, gormet juice, etc, and coffee. Nice second breakfast. Here is the Paul Bakery and the Sprinkles tent. Yum.
I also visited Baked & Wired and the Mal Maison tent, in the background, but not the yogurt place.Maybe this was unusual, though. I think they consolidated two locations in Georgetown into this one spot, at the waterfront park. It would be nice if they keep up with the great food, next year.

ParticipantI thought the towpath was ok today, on my road bike. There were a few wet spots, where bikers were going around the edges, but towpath in general was pretty firm and dry. According to my odometer, the towpath detour is about 0.4 miles.

ParticipantI’ve had a standing desk for about 6 months. Advice I was given was to make sure you had a pad to stand on. I endorse that. I bought a kitchen sink cushion / pad from Bed Bath and Beyond. I also kept my options open, with a lower level surface, and chair, for longer writing efforts. I stand for email, other routine tasks.

ParticipantCaBi – trying to Cross GW Parkway, at-grade and over guardrails, just north of 14th Street Bridge. This is the spot in the Mount Vernon Trail that has a couple side-trails, leading to underpasses, beneath the parkway, right at humpback bridge. But the underpass nearest to her location only leads to an irregular dirt trail, toward the Pentagon.
I was in a car heading from DC on the 14th St bridge, onto northbound parkway, and it looked like such a dangerous situation, I paused in the merge lane to re-direct her to the underpass. Discovered she was hearing impaired, as I waived her back to the trail, behind her, to cross UNDER the parkway. Thinking on it, she probably was trying to get to Crystal City, and didn’t know where to get to the Crystal City Connector. Hope she was ok with that heavy bike on that narrow dirt track.

ParticipantAnyone know why the CaBi station can’t go where the previous post / photograph showed the CaBi bikes? Near the entrance to the visitor center?

ParticipantI too check the Wash Cycle compulsively a couple times a day, including at work. And I just saw the latest post.
Nothing else quite fills the broad role that Wash Cycle plays for the bike community, we are lucky to have it. I’ll take whatever frequency of posts he can make, with many thanks.

ParticipantAgreed – it would be great if the Mount Vernon Trail could take over the tracks, as they head toward Washington Street and around the plant. It would make for a better alternate route, off the river, than the one that is currently marked.
Be nice if all the tracks could go from rail to trail.

ParticipantBesides Crystal City, you can get water at Columbia Island Marina, by taking the new underpass. Water available at the cafe or water fountain at the bathroom.
