ParticipantIMHO, the answer (short of re-aligning the 66 exit ramp to coincide with the GWP exit ramp to the north of the CUSTIS/Laurel intersection) is a high bridge running diagonally from Gateway park to the MVT/Custis connector trail. You would take the ramp just west of the Key Marriot that leads to the raised portion of gateway park and staying at the same elevation ride above traffic down to the trail. This would also take the entrance to the Key Marriot out of play.
Just a thought.

ParticipantI’m bummed. I’ll be rolling through there around 5pm but probably can’t stick around for too long (next day is son’s B-day and I have to help prep). Anyone going to be there a little early?

ParticipantNearly 1000 miles in the first week — Are we showing our hand too early?
can Bike Arlington or Waba coordinate with the group health people and organize events? It would be great to go to the pike brewery but it’s a little out of the way. Should BA or WABA throw down an official gauntlet. Should Mayor Gray wager a case of half smokes to the mayor of Seattle? Should we make this official.
Also, here is an idea for team avitar:

ParticipantI take the bus with my bike from FFX to the Pentaon 8-10 times a week. The Bike rack on the front is fairly simple to use. Just ensure that you wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before walking out in front of it. There are two rack positions; I originally started using the one closest to the bus because that would allow another bike easier access to the other rack, but 2 or 3 bus drivers told me to swap it to the other one (most forward rack). Each driver told me the reason is that if you use the one closer to the bus the seat and rear wheel block some of the driver’s visibility (don’t know how much this is true), but if you use the forward most rack the handlebars and front wheel are infront of the driver and not as much of a visual blockage (?). It does make for a rather awkward dance with my bike after pulling down rack because I pull down the rack with my left hand while I am holding on to my bike with the right. Since my bike is facing the street (aligned how it will go into the rack I have to walk around the bike to put it onto the rack, no big deal but took a little getting used to).
I always get off the bus through the front door and tell the driver that I’m taking off the bike. I ensure that my bike and I are safely on the sidewalk and the rack is back up before I give the driver a thumbs up.
There are two locking arm styles (spring loaded arms that fit over the front wheel to hold the bike in place). The older style is an iverted J with black a foam rubber coating over the hook part; the newer style has a yellow “basket” like top. Both fit on the bike similarly, the older style tends to rub against my front brake assembly a little and is harder to extend. Once the older style J was looped around the bus’ windshield wiper, so it was difficult to pull down the rack. Newer racks tend to be on newer busses.
Hope this helps, I’d be glad to answer any other questions you have.

ParticipantMy commute options are 25 mi one way from FFX to the Navy Yard, or take the bus to the Pentagon and ride 6.2 mi each way to the Navy Yard. I usually ride the entire 25 once or twice a week. I will need to step it up to carry my weight in this group. I will keep the # of trips and % high though.

ParticipantWe are already in 2nd place and climbing fast. go Nats!

I. Did you flip the seat around backwards to show the bike was broken?
Yes, of course. Heck I have been known to turn around seats on bikes with the solid red light that I didn’t report.

ParticipantPP were monitoring Columbia Island Marina/LBJ park parking lot this morning around 8 on my ride through. I expected to be given a ticket for not stopping at the (non-existant) stopsign near the parking lot enterance, but biked through with no contact. Perhaps they are expanding their reign.

ParticipantPlease work with DoD to put one at the Pentagon. Just about every bus in NoVa terminates there. It would make perfect sense for last mile trips to be able to hop on a CaBi.

ParticipantThe Maine avenue sidewalk trail is definately improved but still a mess during cherry blossom season, especially when crammed with out of town tourists who do not know that this is a busy bike trail. I got some rude comments yesterday riding through, despite slowing to a crawl, ringing my bell and announcing my pass. “Doesn’t look much like a road to me” was what I heard.
Also I think they stopped the trail about a 1/2 block short. Now all of the bicyclists are forced to weave through the heavy traffic at the fish market as people come off of water street looking for parking; pretty dangerous spot. If sidewalk was extended all the way down to Phillips garage, or better yet took up one of the 3 lanes of Maine avenue all the way to 6th street, it would be a lot safer.
just my 2c.

ParticipantI recommend we come up with a B2WD swag scavenger hunt. We create a list of cool stuff that they normally give out and then see who collected the most stuff.
