You are correct sir, I’ve found through extensive research that I am the only one leaving from my house that arrives at my office and therefore of all the people bike commuting each day, I am the only one doing my commute. I try not to worry about how fast I am going or how long it takes. It’s nice to see that I’ve been steadily improving, but I don’t even use a bike computer anymore because I would be too worried about the speed it said I was going, or not going. Bike your own commute!

Welcome to NoVa! I can tell you are from the west coast, because you said “the” 395. We just call it 395, or the 3rd circle of hell.

ParticipantI was really lucky yesterday!
I watched the radar, made a run for it between storm cells. I have a 25 minute ride between the navy yard and the Pentagon Bus Depot. I arrived about 5 minutes before the skies opened up, and the Metrobus I was on drove through 2 or 3 good waves, but when I got home it appeared that a pretty violent wave had just blown through. Within 5 minutes of getting home a second wave hit. I’m very glad I got my miles in during the morning commute.

ParticipantSounds like a bike on Metrobus kind of afternoon. Stay safe and watch for high water from below, hailstones from above and houses falling on witches!

I had the same problem. 25 miles this morning, 6 this afternoon, and nothing on the points. I think their software is messed up for the monthly switchover. They fixed it last time I hope they fix it this time.Doesnt’ really matter since today’s miles will not get me to 1500 points.

ParticipantAnother reason for a good moderate cadance — It’s amazing how many songs have a tempo of ~100-120bps; The songs just come naturally.

ParticipantI follow the USCG COLREGS when calling passes:
“(a) When power-driven vessels are in sight of one another and meeting or crossing at a distance within half a mile of each other, each vessel underway, when maneuvering as authorized or required by these Rules:
(i) shall indicate that maneuver by the following signals on her whistle:
one short blast to mean “I intend to leave you on my port side”;
two short blasts to mean “I intend to leave you on my starboard side”;
three short blasts to mean “I am operating astern propulsion”.
(ii) upon hearing the one or two blast signal of the other shall, if in agreement, sound the same whistle signal and take the steps necessary to effect a safe passing. If, however, from any cause, the vessel doubts the safety of the proposed maneuver, she shall sound the danger signal specified in paragraph (d) of this Rule and each vessel shall take appropriate precautionary action until a safe passing agreement is made.”Haven’t used 3 short blasts yet, as I don’t own a fixie. And for those of you playing at home the danger signal is 5 short blasts not “hey watch-it A–hole!”

ParticipantMy family and I camped out at first landing and biked the wooded trailes over to the VA beach strip last July. First landing is nice to bike through, packed dirt trails with plenty of shade which made the 95F heat some what bearable.

ParticipantI came down from the Pentagon and crossed the 14th street bridge around 8:05, so if you were really slow (20 min from Gravelly point to 14th street bridge ~5 mph) and you were crossing the 14th street bridge you could have seen me.

Participant@KLizzotte
honestly I would spread out the miles that you couldn’t log over this week. Who cares if you end up with 100 mile days this week, we will know the truth.

ParticipantI find, for me, the challenge of bike commuting is not the time, but the flexibility. Biking my entire commute is 25 miles one way, around 1:45-2:00 depending on direction (elevation). By incorporating transit, specifically the Metro Bus, for a portion of that commute on days when I need to be home early, ( or at work early, or it is raining, or any other reason I don’t want to ride the whole way) has given me the flexibility to bike commute more. Because of this my miles are nearly doubled since last year.
