A turtle, possibly the same one, was trying to cross this morning. It was sitting in the middle of the northbound lane waiting to get run over by one of us commuters. So I did the noble thing, stopped my bike with all it’s blinkies on to help the turtle cross the trail. A number of other people stopped to watch, or because I was totally in their way. Well let me tell you, this thing was one ungrateful little bastard. All it did was hiss and snap at me the whole time. Had my fingers been close enough, I’m sure it would have tried to take a few off.

Next time, the little bastard can just sit there and take his chances with bike wheels.

There was a turtle waiting to cross the CCT. He appeared rather disgruntled.

I’m gonna hazard a guess that their insurance company isn’t impressed either. Not to mention any creditors. Sounds a bit odd.

    I love the place. But I agree, W! T! F!

Wow. So they broke in while the store was closed and made off with 24 bikes? Right in front of the waterfront park. And nobody saw a thing. No burglar alarm?

Given there was no harm beyond feelings, starting a confrontation over it would not accomplish anything. He’s no doubt aware he bumped into your by not looking, so screaming it at him isn’t going to tell him anything he doesn’t already know. I doubt he’ll learn from it, and screaming at him won’t change that either. So the net gain of “doing something different” would be zero.

I realize this is probably an exercise in futility, but a three-way stop sign at that boardwalk intersection might help a little.

I agree re-doing the mile posts through the entire trail to accommodate a few feet difference is not worth it. But as a nerd, I love the idea of putting QR codes on the trail. Not needed at every MP. But they would be great at various POI’s. The nature people could put in nature stuff. The NPS can put in information about where the trail goes from here, distances, etc. It can bring up the weather. Hell, someone can capitalize on this and sell advertising rights for when people look up the POI’s. Ice Cream, one mile! I think is overall brilliant.

Fat chance. That would be the NPS putting up a sign admitting there is a problem that they aren’t doing anything about.

for instance, it would be nice to advertise our bike friendliness to folks arriving by plane at National Airport.

Solution for that already suggested 😎

Can we construct some sort of permanently-aloft, low-altitude dirigible sign? I’m just saying, the Kaiser was able to do it, so can we. USA, USA, USA!

When they don’t fix it, will that in turn damage your moral?

    Most likely, paperwork.

For those of us that are IT challenged, can anyone post a screen shot? Very curious as to what I’m missing.

The implication is that the site appears to have been designed about 12 years ago (when Netscape Navigator was totally rad…) by a 12 year old using the MS Word HTML editor.

I have seen alarm’s you can attach to the bike. They have proximity sensors and stuff and will sound an obnoxiously loud siren.
