My favorite road rage ever was out in MoCo on a Sunday – the driver buzzed me then yelled “YOU’RE MAKING ME LATE FOR G-D CHURCH!!!”
…only he didn’t say G-D. Two words. I can’t figure out how filthy I can be on this board so I’m keeping it G-rated.
When in reality, it was G-D Rated?
Goddammit, Dave.

While I’m generally sympathetic to Dana’s sympathy for commercial drivers, I’d point out that there are loading docks attached to nearly every building where this occurs. I’d also point out that FedEx and UPS trucks almost always have the option of pulling just around the corner onto a less-heavily traveled side street – but almost never do. Arlington County could change this behavior if it wanted to.

ParticipantI have the SRAM mount. Securing bolt needs a bit of loctite, in my experience.

Last year I biked there in sequins and heels! Just watch out for places you could snag your nylons. A well placed band-aid on the bike frame here or there never hurt anyone.
Totally, Nikki.

ParticipantGood luck and I hope things work out easily. My advice to you – and anyone else who is active and dealing with injury – is make sure your doctor deals with active people and actually understands that “good enough” is not good enough. Unfortunately, the reference standard in the US seems to be ambulatory (rather than fit and active), and I’ve found that it makes a difference when a doctor has a real appreciation for your need to not just move, but compete. I hope you’ve got one like that in your corner.

ParticipantArlingtonRider just rolled right past my backyard. I have a feeling she was following the non-existent (but posted!) Bike Route between us and the park. As you were.

ParticipantOne more time – please stop giving money to AAA:
Perhaps the most dogged general in the war on cars is AAA’s John Townsend, a 62-year-old grandfather from Alabama with slicked-back white hair and a patient and genial demeanor—until you bring up David Alpert, who runs the “smart growth” website Greater Greater Washington, an unabashed proponent of policies that would make the city’s streets more multimodal. Then the venom starts to fly.
“He is a nerd,” Townsend says. “I think that he’s developmentally retarded.”
Townsend believes that Alpert dishes out criticism from the protected space of his blog that he wouldn’t dare speak in person. “It’s almost like the Klan hiding behind the white masks,” Townsend says.
AAA doesn’t respond to Alpert, Townsend says, because he’s “not worthy” and it would be “like shooting a gnat with a bazooka,” but Townsend himself is not above lashing out at Alpert. “I’ve told him to his face, ‘You’re a little ninny,’ and he ran out the room like a schoolboy,” Townsend says.

My strap stopped working a while ago, but the monitor still functions. I was going to try out the Polar Wearlink strap that supposedly works with the Garmin HR transmitter.

Anyone else tried that yet?
I see that you ordered already, but I’ll chime in to say that yes, I’ve done this, and the Polar strap has lasted longer than any of my Garmin soft-straps. I won’t be buying the Garmin straps in the future (tho’ I have kept one of the old style straps as a backup).

ParticipantBoth houses had originally approved the increased fines (and making DWT a primary offense). Governor McDonnell decided to veto the fine increase, and the legislature acquiesced. I’m hardly a defender of those clowns in Richmond, but the fault here lies at McDonnell’s feet.

No, it’s really not too bad.

I have a 10-miler on April 7. HA HA HA me.
If anyone is looking to ALSO have a 10 miler on April 7, I’ve got an entry up for grabs. Just doesn’t work for me, this year. It’s a great race, and I’ll be back. Just not this year.

ParticipantThe DCist article got the essential points of the issue. WABA will, indeed, be asking for your support in solving this issue for the future – but the exact mechanics of that solution are still being worked out. WABA just wanted to let everyone know, as soon as it did, that Bike DC wouldn’t be happening in 2013. I fully expect we’ll be able to get it sorted for next year. WABA and the Bike DC event promoter aren’t exactly new to the challenges of bike events in DC and are keenly aware of where the logjams occurred this year.
(Finally, I’d like to note that while both Bike DC and the DC Tri had issues with the byzantine nature of event permitting in DC, the similarities – in my view – end there.)
