Of course, they have to actually join the Strava club to get back onto the leaderboards.
Well the link worked, as several people have requested admission to the club – I set it to private. I have oked their admission, I take it it takes some time for the leaderboard to update.
BTW, Richard, did you announce the Alexandria infra prize at Happy Hour? Does the winner know he won? I will make private arrangements to give the prize (rather than wait to final HH, which tends to not have enough time) but would like to know before I contact him.

To many pedestrians, especially those not familiar with local trail conventions, a bell, especially a loud one, just means “get out of my way.” I use my voice for this reason, but of course, that annoys some people too.
Also a lot of trail users have limited English language ability.

ParticipantBeerneuring #3 Black Walnut Brewing
The ride there was lovely. Strava informed me that I had not ridden to Leesburg since 2016, which surprised me, but also made sense, between non bike stuff, bike advocacy, exploring in DC and Md, I can see where that would be true. I managed around the detour well enough. The brewery is almost right off the trail, Could have used better bike parking. I got a flight – I had thought of stopping at a second brewery in Leesburg, but because I started a bit late, and faced a south wind on the return, I decided not to. The BWB taproom is quite cozy.
Irish Setter Red Ale
Pours dark brown, tan head. Aroma is nice caramel. Taste is sweetish, malty, caramel, dark bread. Nice
Belgian Trippel
Pours light gold, lasting white head. Slightly yeasty funky aroma. Much more funk on the taste. Alcohol is a bit too obvious. Fairly heavy mouthfeel
A bit harsh on the finish, something like licorice. I think this is not their bestYellow Lab IPA
Almost hazy orange, small but lasting white head. Aroma is beautiful evergreen trees, shading into flowers. Taste is much more citrus, grapefruit, lemon, pine on the finish. Fairly light mouthfeel. Not at all bad.
Black Lab Porter
Pours almost black, tan head. Aroma is soft malt, almost minty, more than chocolate. Taste is very roasty, more hoppy than a lot of micro porters, hints of milk chocolate on the finish. Medium light mouthfeel. Not typical, again not bad.

How many years does it take to constitute a curse? I am trying to get through a January car-vs-bicycle “issue” — hmm, maybe I shouldn’t mention it until the month is over. On January 6, 2019, I was hit by a car as I was crossing Lee Highway eastbound on the W&OD. (Do you remember my black eye when I showed up for Happy Hour?) That statistic just served to reinforce the decision to replace that surface crossing with a bridge. On January 10, 2018, I was hit by a car in a crash that was partly my fault — attempting to cross in front of a line of cars stopped at a red light one block up. Never assume the drivers will see you. I guess that’s why one of the first questions the police officer at the scene asked me was, “Did you make eye contract with the driver?” !!! Seemed very weird (and impractical) at the time.
Oh geez, leslie. You never, ever mention a curse when you are in the midst of breaking it. You have 20 days left. You aren’t actually a Galitzianer, are you, or you would know this. Now I must say a dozen “keneineharas” for you.

ParticipantBeerneuring #2 Caboose Commons
Won’t bother talking about the bike conditions from Settle Down, people have kvetched about Rte 29 for years. The brewery of course is dramatic and the bike parking is great.
Caboose Key Lime Gose
Hazy yellow, white head. Aroma is soft lime weaving in and out. Taste is indistinctly sour, lime more on the finish. Light to medium mouthfeel. Gets better on the second and third sips..I liked this a lot.

Jan 4 at the Bike Lane. Fxbooks met me there and it would have been rude to not have a drink with her, right? I had the Ryed or Die, a rye IPA. (Ryde… I see what you did there.) Easy to drink, slightly bitter and not overly hoppy. Ryde on!

ParticipantBeerneuring #1 Settle Down Easy
The challenge of getting there was the dual detour on the W&OD. West wasn’t bad but I missed the turn onto Hollywood, which meant navigating sidewalks and service lanes and parking lots on Lee Highway in classic Fairfax County style. The brewery was nice though, if the bike parking lacking. No flight price, so I just got 3 tasters and saved some up for Caboose.
2 Cloud 9 – NEIPA
Hazy light yellow white head. Aroma is mango peach, soft pine, quite strong. Taste has a bit more pine, still lots of soft fruit, some sweetness. Little bitterness, very drinkable.
Sour Raspberry Ramble
Purplish red, I guess crimson. Strongly sour, odd candied berry taste comes in and out. I guess honey notes. Aroma is subtle, hints of berry and honey. I think they tried to do too much with this
Le Grand ChocolatAlmost black, tan head. Taste starts with an interesting coffee cocoa note that quickly resolves to a blander milk chocolate. The bourbon overtones are noticeable. Aroma is milk chocolate without the bourbon. Mouthfeel is definitely creamy. I think maybe they overdid the lactose? Not unpleasant though.

There are still 10 people on the wait list. You might be asking: Why don’t we form another 8-person team? After all, there are more people who want to play. The reason is: Invariably, some number of people will drop out for whatever reason. So we need to have a wait list of at least a handful of people (probably more than that) to fill those spaces.

I have been informed that starting tomorrow Eye Street SE will again be closed, EB, from Half to First Street.
Good news is that the Audi Field route (the alternative from the Wharf to the Yards) is better than before, with a new PBL on P Street SW now in place.
To note though – the in road take the lane portion of this route, on Maine past the construction of the Wharf Phase 2, which used to be okay because with two EB lanes most traffic would pass you in the left lane – is now more of a pain point, because with construction Maine EB is now one lane for a short but nasty stretch – you will either be delayed by cars (nbd), or have them on your tail.

There is a westbound segment called “Seminary: Quaker up to Howard. It covers the full .91 miles of the westbound bike lane from Quaker to Howard.
That works, I will use that instead. This means of course that riders will have to go all the way to Quaker, they can’t wimp out and turn up Chapel Hill
