ParticipantMy bike being in the shop is driving me crazy. My door to door 1 way commute is usually about 18 minutes. Last night it took 90 minutes thanks to metro’s involvement. This morning was in the 45 minute range even though I jogged to the station.

ParticipantI’ll be around eventually. My rear hub decided to die wed. night and needs replacing

Participanttentative RSVP here <- my schedule is filling up because I'm moving to Alexandria mid month (which will double my commute mileage btw my team
)

ParticipantI’ve coveted that bike myself, and now wish I had bit the budget bullet and bought it from papillon instead of the cheaper scott I bought from HTO but hind sight is 20/20
If you do wind up getting it I’d be very interested in hearing your 6month/12month impressions of it. Sorry to not be helpful.LeprosyStudyGroup
ParticipantYeah I really scratched my head when they recently rebuilt that area on the east side of the street (that will eventually be a covered bus stop I guess?) with seemingly zero consideration of the fact that it is directly next to one of the busiest trail entrances in the entire area, and there is no reasonable way for cyclists to exit from the trail and either head south to the access road or safely cross the street without bumbling through a maze of pedestrians and poles and cars and curbs.

ParticipantSeeing that pic of Jamie doing the Leap of Faith gave me some warm nostalgia fuzzies
**apparently he’s still skating and still making videos for zero, wowDecember 11, 2015 at 1:45 pm in reply to: eBikes and electric powered vehicles (including the Elf) #1042749LeprosyStudyGroup
ParticipantIt seems like the people who ride electric have a lot more time to write lots of long posts. Kinda jealous now.

There’s a walker who I have passed near Daingerfield Island on the Mount Vernon Trail who gets really upset when I ring my bell. He turns and yells at me as I pass. 2x this week
You can print out and highlight the section of virginia state law that says a cyclist must give an audible warning before passing a pedestrian next time you see him.
“A person riding a bicycle on a sidewalk, shared-use path, or across a roadway on a crosswalk, shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian.”

ParticipantWhere did you get that picture of me wearing my rain gear!?

ParticipantKrylon general purpose should be fine. You can go to autozone and buy some automotive touch-up quality stuff if you want to spend more money.
The main mistake people make while coating with aerosols is trying to rush the job and ruining it with drips. Be extremely patient, misting every application, and allow enough time to fully dry between coats if you want the strongest finish. Don’t expect to cover the underlying paint fully until after at least 3 coats, and keep going for a couple more coats even after that. Then do the same starting over with a clear protective finish.

A horse weighs 1000#s, and is 5 ft or taller and can gallop at 30 mph. What is your opinion about the safety of horses on the W&OD?
Since you’ve demonstrated a willingness to set up straw man arguments and irrelevant excuses ad nauseum I’d like to call your attention back to the real crux of the problem: you’re not taking responsibility for your own actions which negatively impact the community around you:

A majority of people seem to believe the ELF is inappropriate to drive on the WO&D and other multi use paths, and your refusal to acknowledge this is not having any concrete positive impacts despite your flights of fancy otherwise. The really very simple solution is to drive the ELF on the streets, where it obviously was designed to be driven, even if that isn’t the most convenient thing for you.
Where is your threshold? Freaking people out isn’t good enough? Do you really have to hurt someone in an accident before you reconsider? 5 people? What will it take for you to modify your behavior for the better?

ParticipantTheres normal things like patch kits, tire lever sets, blinkies, reflective vests, chain lube.
I dunno how this would go over with a majority of folks because their bikes are too precious, or if it would be too expensive to develop: but ride events could make little achievement badge stickers for the event that people could stick on their helmets or top tubes etc fighter pilot style.
Lengths of reflective tape would be useful and atypical swag, same with spoke reflectors.

I’ve been commuting over this bridge for 3 years and it’s pretty much just autopilot for me now especially in the mornings, I just KNOW I’m gonna wind up here 3-4 times this month and have to Charlie Brown shuffle away. (and be VERY late to work instead of just way too late)p.s. I just love how the sign they already put up at the other end of the bridge has blocked 1/2 of the sidewalk around the downhill blind corner for the last 3 weeks or so.

ParticipantNow that the event is over:
assuming a rough parity in riders dropping off in logging miles (though who bothers? it’s automatic for most!)
whoever it is in the GCC is no longer bothering to input fake riders and miles, and we’re blowing them away by 3x the points
https://nationalbikechallenge.org/leaderboards/teams?date=2015-10in unrelated news DC is the #2 “state” as well
