I *volunteered to count* for BPAC this past weekend at the intersection where Commonwealth goes under the train tracks at the King St. Metro.
Here’s a picture of my form from Saturday. Take a look at the red circled area. I decided to amuse myself by counting the number of southwest bound vehicles that failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign during a random 15 minute period (yeah it gets boring counting peds). 23 cars didn’t stop during that 15 minutes. Only two cars drove through the stop sign at speed though (I guess between 15-25 MPH) – they were both Taxis.
I didn’t notice if any of the 6 bikers didn’t stop, and I would lend them the assumption that they made sure whatever they did wouldn’t lead to their immediate deaths.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure I can dig up some lead paint if you want to do any detailing. It’ll make you go faster downhill too!

and I’m pretty sure he has a thing for feet so I can give him the eyebrows right back and then we can hi five

ParticipantAt risk of being a dingleberry, I gotta say it really does make my day better if I cross paths with a woman biking in something low cut, so if that somehow leads to less boob stings too it’s a win-win public service.

ParticipantSouthbound bike lanes on S Potomac Ave next to the Renaissance Inn / Marriot whatever hotel

The shuttle bus drivers and taxis servicing this hotel have space to pull up to the curb instead of blocking the lane, but they dont care. They sit there all day every day.LeprosyStudyGroup

ParticipantThat’s why you go a bit out of your way to take the easy curve of 28th and cross glebe at Meade instead

Looking at a map, one option could be to go up Arlington Ridge just one block and then turn right on June.
Is the trail through Oakcrest Park rideable? If so, then one could work through the neighborhood streets to 23rd and not deal with the traffic or the curves on Arlington Ridge. Can’t avoid the climb, though.Or take the sidewalk on the north side of Glebe to Hill St. & right on 31st to Eads. Looks less hilly. I have not done this, so I don’t know the feasibility of riding the sidewalk on Glebe. I would suspect trying to turn left off of Glebe onto Hill would be suicide except during very low traffic times. You’d have to cross at Mt. Vernon Ave.
This might be an interesting option coming the other way. Exit MVT at Crystal City; take Eads to right on 31st; left on Hill; right on Glebe for a short distance (or sidewalk) to Mt. Vernon Ave. Perhaps I’ll test this going to 3rd Thursday.
I’ve ridden on all the routes around that area a few times cause I lived there in Aurora Highlands for 6-7 years. I recommend crossing Glebe at Meade (the Giant Foods side) to 28th and then going up and down Army Navy drive to the Pentagon Mall/Row area over messing with biking Mt Vernon Ave/Arlington Ridge Rd or the Glebes. Crossing the intersection of Glebe and Mt Vern will never not be a nightmare.
That path up to Oakcrest is 1 way traffic width and gets up to like a 20% incline. People walk their dogs on it. It’s a lot of fun if you like that stuff. Most people don’t.
The sidewalk there on the north side of glebe isn’t great, and rock walls/bushes/electrical poles will try to push you into the road while blocking sight lines to anybody exiting the smaller streets. At some point the sidewalk just stops if you keep heading east. Going back behind the processing plant on 31st isn’t too bad though. Getting up over the hump of south Grant from 31st could really kick your ticker if you wanted to do that too!

While that makes a lot of sense, I don’t think that combination of words is unfamiliar enough to have been what he said. Sorry my memory is so vague about stuff like this.
Now im wondering if it was the name of a specific tour or place or something like Col du Galibier.LeprosyStudyGroup
ParticipantI’m going to ride on up to 50 states from Alexandria in time to depart around 8am. I plan on getting lost several times for lack of being able to follow a cue sheet, following randos up the wrong roads, and then bailing sometime around noon because my legs hurt or just for grouchy reasons, or maybe finishing. If anybody else is interested in this plan they are welcome to join me.

ParticipantHad fun with everyone, even getting dropped several times turned out okay. Sad to not have spotted Rod, I would have carefully approached him with a pbj sandwich and soft cooing noises, and hope he didn’t take my hand off with the first bite.
