I wonder if Mount Vernon Trail is safe for riding tomorrow. Did anyone ride on that trail today?
NPS doesn’t pre-treat or clear the Mt. Vernon Trail, so I suspect it’s going to be a mess tomorrow unless you have studded tires.

1/31/2021 — “Henri Desgrange” subanagram. I went out for my decasleaze just after midnight and found a reference to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. If the photo isn’t clear, the full text under the heading The Federal Flood Control Project is “In 1974, Congress authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct a flood control channel to contain the flow of a 100-year storm event. The project was completed and dedicated in August 1980.”

ParticipantHallelujah, third time really is the charm. The gaiters with the correct logo are finally here!

The gaiters are $10 each. Cash, PayPal, or Venmo are easiest for me, but if none of those works for you, let me know and we’ll figure something out.
Three options for delivery: (1) if you’re in Alexandria or Arlington, PM me your street address and I’ll deliver them to your mailbox or wherever you indicate; (2) come find me at Hump Day Coffee Club (in Shirlington, in the breezeway next to Guapo’s) next Wednesday, February 3 between 7:15-7:45 a.m.; or (3) send me $1 via PayPal or Venmo to cover shipping, and I’ll mail one to you. Let me know your mailing address so that I know where to send the gaiter.
I also have a limited number of FS2020 and FS2018 zipper pulls ($1) and FS2019 ankle bands ($2) available. If you’d like one, come find me at HDCC or send me the appropriate amount via PayPal or Venmo plus $1 for shipping. For example, if you’d like the complete set mailed to you, that would be $1 (2018 zipper pull) + $2 (2019 ankle band) + $1 (2020 zipper pull) + $10 (2021 gaiter) + $1 (shipping) = $15. Thanks!

1/28/2021 — rum. There’s a sculpture in front of the 800 Carlyle Apartments that addresses Alexandria’s history as a trading port. One of the signs lists some of the commodities traded in the city, including coffee, rum, and molasses. The sign also notes that enslaved Africans and African Americans, as well as indentured Irish, were transported through Alexandria as human commodities.

Silly question – for those who are new to the event this year and probably missed the original, “yes, I’ll buy one of those” — when they DO arrive, will there be any extra? I’d definitely like to purchase one!
Yes, there should be enough extras for anyone who wants to buy one. UPS says they’ll arrive tomorrow evening, woohoo!
