Just in case anyone’s looking for us (although we would have been #11 & 12), please don’t. Riding partner not 100% this morning and we’d rather do the ride when she’s up to speed. Thanks for the route – will try next week some time. Ride safe and fun today!

There are two more of us who would like to join if you’re not full. We’ll be coming from Reston area. Desperately needing somewhere different to ride at this point! Please let me know if it’s full though!

Just in case you reschedule or actually do go on Friday — there’s a missing cue on your route. As you leave Meadowlark Gardens turning right on Beulah, there’s no cue for taking the next right on Meadowlark Road. (The reason I noticed it is that I’ve ridden this fairly often and wanted to make sure you direct people onto the road, and not the connector trail until the very end of the road where it connects to the W&OD. As the connector trail goes down the side of Meadowlark Rd it’s pretty steep in places and it’s not overly wide. At night, it could lead to a bad outcome.) In sum: add the cue to turn right on Meadowlark Road so no one accidentally gets on the trail thinking it’s safer. Hope the weather clears enough for you to do it!

More resources for those who want to pursue this pointless prize (but cool idea because there’s so much in this area it could fill your every cold weather riding day).

City of Fairfax and Town of Herndon also have historical markers

You’ll have to look at the lists to a) figure out a good route and b) winnow them down to just Civil War history — there’s a boatload of all types of history represented in these lists. If you come up with a route in the Reston/Herndon area and want a sanity check on it before you come out to ride it, feel free to ping me kbikeva at gmail. I have a couple of rides I occasionally lead that are around this area that are particular to that time frame. Plus, access to different roads is changing so quickly out here, I might be able to help you with a work-around.

It only works if the original info is correct — which it wasn’t. I checked the race website and it says it’s on SUNDAY.

Let us know when you check in and we’ll sing Happy Birthday to you. Or not – whatever you prefer!

Get a BUNCH of people to ride with you to celebrate and stick around afterwards to party like it’s your own event!

The guy was the ‘leap frogging’ type: does not like to be passed. The group passed him once and he rushed to the head of the group, then started dropping back, followed by this final move. The worst is that as he passed the person leading the group, he quipped something about riders needing better bike handling skills. Someone should have a word with him.

Purchasing a folding bike is not within a lot of peoples’ budgets.

Bikes being treated as legitimate parts of the transportation system is important.

Not wanting to be myopic. Wanting them to do the research and answer the mail. It is possible to design/improve a system that accounts for bikes as well.

If you don’t agree, you don’t need to sign it. If no one ever asks them these questions, they will continue to marginalize bike/mass trans commuters.

Reston Moms Club will host local bike folks including our local bike shop at their next meeting in June. The goal is to promote family biking out here in the burbs, and hopefully get a KM group going.
