ParticipantOn Sunday evenings, I will post who is leading with extra points. These are in addition to the point you get for each day via your strava.
Leader at this point: Indiana with 21 extra points
This week I gave bonuses to:
3 for HokieBeth for Tricycle LFL
3 for Indiana for daughter riding with her AND playing along!
3 for AlanA for nice comments on other people’s submissions
3 for sfrank for rearranging books to meet a librarian’s standards
3 for karenbikes2 for carrying books in her pannier to refill LFL’sAs promised, these extra points are linked to my whimsy. I’m pretty sure sooner or later everyone will accrue some. Next week I’ll be looking really hard at the design of the LFL’s searching for artistic/cool factors!

ParticipantGray day here but no snow, thank goodness. That would be really weird in El Paso. Not much traffic today, the Cowboys must be playing.

#FSbooks
Is it deja vu? Yes, Kathy, Nadine and I found this LFL at the corner of Beachway and Blair in the Lake Barcroft neighborhood.
Mostly books for grownups. Could use some kids books. [emoji6]Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Did the librarian reorganize this one too? You all will probably leave a trail of happy LFL’s in your wake!

ParticipantGray day here in the southwest but at least no snow on the ground!

At Scottsdale Elementary School — the highest ranking public elementary school in the Ysleta school district (according to my mom).

I’m unsuccessfully trying to get this photo orientation correct! Couldn’t get closer due to big fence, but the elephants are a nice touch, I think.

Couldn’t get any closer for a more artistic photo as most homes here that have nice gardens have big fences in front of them. This was no exception. The elephants are nice though…

Reminds me of Tucson. Are you near it at all?

Sort of – I’m in El Paso. Closer to Tucson than to anywhere else in Texas…

This one isn’t on the map, so I’ll give only the approximate location. However, it’s right across the street from North Bethesda Middle School. As such, it could use more Young Adult books.Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
What? CVC riding in daylight? I’m skeptical on this one …

ParticipantI’m finding most of the LFL’s here are at elementary schools. Some are actually inside the school so that’s a nope for me.
Bill Sybert School
But this one today was accompanied by a Community Blessing Box. Both receptacles were well stocked!

Participant1/8/22 Creek
This is what passes for a creek in the desert here. If we had rain, it would have water. The alternative photo would have been street signs with “Creek” in the name. Not sure where the imagination for THOSE developers came from — the neighborhoods are dry as a bone!

ParticipantHey everyone — bikingjenn brought up a good point. So here’s a new rule:
“If you did not find the address of the LFL on the LFL registered map, providing a street name or general location is fine.”
And here’s my LFL of the day. I’ve found that most of them here are actually on school grounds and since school is in session, I’m a bit hesitant about going up to the door! But this young lady gave me permission today!

1/6/22-LFL N 27th St be Florida and Edison. A little something different. First kids pop-up book I have seen in a very very long time. Book about Mary Kay too. Library is a miniature house. I didn’t take a picture of the house or give the
address, because it kind of freaks me out. I wouldn’t want someone posting my address on social media.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bikingjenn, a lot of the LFL’s are not registered, probably for that very reason. I don’t post the addresses anywhere. I’ve been trying to collect them with the thought that I’d create an area map of where they are – but your comment gives me pause. And honestly, it’s a lot of work to harvest the info so maybe I’ll change that plan.
That said, if posting in this forum counts as posting on social media, you have a point and I agree. Therefore, here’s a new rule, “If you did not find the address of the LFL on the LFL registered map, providing a street name or general location is fine.”

Participant1/7/2022 Cuboid
Most houses here have a cuboid of this type on top. In the desert, a “swamp cooler” is a far more efficient way to cool one’s home in the summer. Not sexy, not scenic, but definitely essential!

ParticipantAlan – yes, I’ve driven all over here. Finished HS here (not at the amazing castle). The highway art is indeed beautiful. I asked our FCDOT Director once why we can’t have pretty highways. He said that all of VA has to have what all of VA can have — so everyone gets the same mediocrity. So sad!
I also biked the Big Bend with Adventure Cycling in 2017 and recommend it. It’s an arduous trip but worth doing. Such a different landscape!
