Participant2/4/2022 Groundhog Day
Have you ever seen one of these beasties move dirt (ground)? They are definitely hogs about it!

Alexandria has been more focused on removing confederate names. Might be because 11 other presidents, including Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe also owned slaves.
Indeed. And out here in West Texas, there’s a County and mountains named for Jefferson Davis – from when he was Sec of War, before he went on to other things. History is a grinding mess of contradictions and inconsistencies. We should all probably just stop naming things for people at all.

Discovered these outside of “The Point,” a new condo building in Reston at the end of Roland Clark Place.
We’ll have to add them to the Reston Public Art Bike Tours!

Dang! Why didn’t I think of that!! Well done.
I was literally on my last mile to home, having taken photos of street signs that were ‘close but not quite the thing’ when I saw this. So much more emphatic than the new Ford logos, so I jumped on it! I love that out here people hang on to cars until they’re falling apart so you get to see these amazing beauties (and potential beauties)…and as long as they’re not beside me/in front of me in traffic belching fumes, I love them!

2/3/2022 – Presidents Day
Fog spoiled my planned photo, but here is Lincoln in Washington.

Somewhere out there is Washington

You have me so confused – I was expecting a NYC photo! Nicely done though capturing the fog!

Participant2/3/22 Pebble Hills Middle School
Kids were out of school today due to snow and ice this morning so I felt okay going on school property for a photo. It was full of great selections for students with various reading tastes and abilities.

Participant2/3/2022 There was actually snow here last night and it was COLD riding. All of my cold weather riding gear is in Virginia (I didn’t think I’d be here this long). But I layered up, and went out in search of something new to post.
This is at a local public library. It’s actually a clever camouflage of a HVAC system, nicely incorporated into the rest of the architecture.

2/2/22 Groundhog Day I am a numbers gal and love fun strings of numbers. Looked long and hard for 2222 but found 222 which is cool because Groundhog Day keeps repeating. So, 222 as a palindrome is 222 so like Groundhog Day, it keeps repeating over and over again. Taken on tonight’s ride which currently will not upload from my Garmin.

And is anyone else here young enough to remember “Room 222”?

#publicartfinder – N Beaver St, York, PA. York is a target rich area for public art, so much to choose from! I found a tiger sculpture downtown that would have worked for Lunar New Years, but I rode the other direction last night.

If only there had been a skunk at the fawn’s nose, it would have been Bambi! It’s hard when there is SO MUCH to choose from, isn’t it?

ParticipantI rode out to the new theater (Alamo Drafthouse) where they advertised (on line) that they’ll be showing Groundhog Day this evening. I was hoping there would be something . . . ANYTHING that would be suitable for the scavenger hunt photo. What I didn’t know is that the road it’s on is under SERIOUS construction. Playing frogger on the roundabouts was nothing compared to getting into the parking lot so I could go look for the little rodent. It included zillions of fast moving cars and trucks, a newly laid entrance that was still warm as I walked across it, and carrying my bike over sand so as not to accumulate goathead thorns.
Nothing depicting a groundhog or the title or anything. So I went to my back-up plan and stopped at the grocery store on the way back.

Be sure to use correct hashtag #publicartfinder (not case sensitive) if you want the BAFS leaderboard to find your ride data on Strava.
I just checked the Strava postings to verify the 10 mile minimum for those on top of the leaderboard, and found several wrong or incomplete hashtags, so pointless points are being left out (oh no!.
I left notes in the Strava comments for those affected in case they want to wiggle their way upwards (without having to ride to do so;-).Ride, Seek & Spellcheck!

My new personal hashtag is #soembarrassed. Thanks Boomer for doing this extra work. I corrected my hashtags now (including today’s). I don’t know why I started going that route, but I’m back now. Whew! Here is today’s photo.

Nothing depicting a groundhog or the title or anything, but a lovely mural way up high. (cue music, “Oh the things we do for art . . . “)

If I was giving points — this would get extra for seizing the moment to turn an “ugh” into an “aha!”
