Dewey park near Lake Needwood
I stumbled upon these last year and was blown away. It’s nice to see they’re still shiny and colorful!

What’s better than a violet bike at an elementary school?

Gorgeous blue sky in El Paso today. Made it a challenge to find the best blue photo! But here it is. Enjoy!

ParticipantThis is an amazing sculptural canopy over the entrance to the El Paso Natatorium. (Big ‘ol swimmin’ pool). I’m glad Boomer doesn’t limit the number of photos because just 1 doesn’t really capture it. It’s called “Marquise” and it’s by Marc Fornes/THEVERYMANY, an art/architecture studio in NYC.

Looking up from underneath and yes Boomer, I did lie down on the ground!

This sculptural entrance canopy to the local natatorium is called “Marquise” and is by Marc Fornes/THEVERYMANY. (His is an art/architecture studio in NYC). The ride was brutal – SO many steep hills, but I’m glad I did it because it was on my bucket riding list and now I don’t have to go back. This is from underneath the canopy looking up. For more photos, see my strava feed.

2/27/22 LFL Replenishment Ride–had two books but deposited first one The Enchantress of Florence by S Rushdie at the near empty LFL at Bluemont park. Dropped off The Paris Wife (& so did Carol) at this LFL on Duke St in Alex near Taylor Pkwy
Kelly, there was discussion about whether a photo dropping off the book needed yo be in the picture and if yes, does the bike, book, cyclist and LFL all need to be in one photo?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bike, book, LFL — person does not need to be in the photo. But be careful – the rules say ONE photo.

ParticipantI’ve not been playing this game, but I told Boomer I’d get him this one. When I lived here in high school these were the most feared drivers on the road. The border was wide open so if they were involved in a crash, they easily escaped consequences. And despite the law requiring insurance on all cars, there was no way to enforce it back then so American drivers were at real risk. The laws have tightened since then (as has the border) and they’re much better drivers. Certainly better than many I have interacted with in the DMV!

Esfera Cuántica Tlahtolli by Sebastian, on the campus of University of Texas El Paso (UTEP).

Mexican culture celebrates bright colors, so there was no shortage of subjects from which to choose today. The terra cotta of the buildings, the bright orange paint on trucks, stores, and murals, and the fact that UTEP’s colors are orange and white made it a challenge to narrow it down. Ultimately, I chose the piece that celebrates the unity and joy of relationship between UTEP and Mexico.
Acclaimed Mexican Sculptor Sebastian created this piece to celebrate the centennial of UTEP in 2014. It’s painted steel, and is called Esfera Cuántica Tlahtolli. Tlahtolli is a Nahautl word that means “Language, Communication”. The piece was a gift from the People of Mexico to UTEP on the anniversary of its centennial.

I, Cathy, and Karen left books in this LFL. But, unfortunately, it is empty again. Good that Karen leads a group ride to fill this LFL on Sunday, 2/27.I love that it emptied so quickly — that means it’s well-loved! Thank all of you for continuing to show this one and others some TLC!
